Regarding yesterday’s Florida primary
McCain? Hillary? Really? That’s the best we got? Really?

HA! Far from it! Basically the primaries need to die. Put everyone who qualifies to run on a ballot in August. We the people, registered voters, vote, just like a general election. The top 4 from each party get to go to the big show in November. Then we vote for the prez. I want to vote for Fred, he’s gone, no Rudy, nope, not fucking Mccain, but the primaries had made sure that I can’t unless they run as an independents.
Or voter apathy has gotten worse. The rich don’t really care since they got money and can ride out most anything. The poor will vote for any asshole that promises to kiss their ass and give them something for nothing. The middle gets bent over by either party as Big Brother Bush has shown us all, so is there really any difference between Hillary and Mccain? Muir says 4%. That’s barely a fucking margin of error.

Might as well be Jack Johnson Vs John Jackson…
John Jackson: “It’s time someone had the courage to stand up and say: I’m against those things that everybody hates.”
Jack Johnson: “Now, I respect my opponent. I think he’s a good man. But quite frankly, I agree with everything he just said.”
John Jackson: “I say your three cent titanium tax goes too far.”
Jack Johnson: “And I say your three cent titanium tax doesn’t go too far enough.”
Uuuuuggggghhhhhh.... I’m voting for Zombie Nixon.

I’m going to close my eyes and pretend it’s the future and vote for Reagan’s head.

The good thing is that the delegates from florida don’t count for Hillary. They were disqualified by the DNC for moving up their primary.
Small comfort, I know.
Is it to late to go in to cryogenic sleep?

Yup.
This is the illusion of difference, here.

First of all, worst case: The country will survive 4 years of Barack Obama or t3h Hildebeast. We’ll even survive 8 years, if it comes to that. Fuck, we survived four years of Carter, and you can’t do much worse than that.
Secondly, if you don’t want McLame, get off your ass and do something about it. I know Romney’s not perfect. I’m not thrilled about his second amendment views. He’s been squishy on abortion, which while not a big issue for me is important to a lot of folks. But he’s the best horse in the race by a country mile. I’ve said it before:
Vote for Mitt!
He’s the Shit!
All you Huckabee evangelicals
Just get over it!
Now if I can just get his campaign to drop that restraining order…

Hey, Jim, off topic but since you regularly blog about Tom and his scientology idiocy, I thought I might point this out to you.

I’m still guessing - and have been doing so for YEARS - that the Revolution will happen right around 2025.

Worlds going to end 12-21-2012, so we need to get a move on. The problem is 50% won’t fight and think everything is peachy, the fundies are waiting for Armageddon so the actual number of us that is going to make this work is what, 20 - 30% tops?

so the actual number of us that is going to make this work is what, 20 - 30% tops?
How many soldiers did the Americans manage to raise as a percentage of the population during the Revolutionary War? Because according to the 2008 World Almanac (page 128), I get a total force of 184-250 thousand of a total population in the 13 colonies of just under 4 million (same source, page 592-3).
Using the most generous estimate of forces, (and ignoring the certain drop in population caused by that war, what with the losers taking their officials and troops home to Europe and the more adventurous sorts choosing to continue the Diaspora westward into “unsettled” lands tending to offset any increase in immigration), and remembering that the population was certain to be higher, since slaves were only counted as a fraction of a person, that still puts the total number of those actively involved at just over 6%.
And we won. So if we had as many as 20% behind us, we would win again in a cakewalk.
The problem is the increasing sense of entitlement by the citizens (and illegal immigrants) who choose to vote for the guy promising them the most for their vote, utterly ignoring the economic reality of the situation.
When people vote for the impossible, what they get is the disastrously possible.
I’m about to put up a blog post about this, if I can keep the train of thought in my head long enough…

Basing that on the Mayan Calendar I take it?

Correction, basing that off an incorrect interpretation of the Mayan calendar!

I have said it before and I’ll say it again. Lawyers and policitians have made it so, No one is responsible for anything, but Someone is acountable for everything. Why should I work when I can just sue.
Personally, I think we are fucked. Anyone, Anyone that is capable of doing the job correctly refuses to do it, or won’t sell out in order to get the money to run. At least when the world ends all the 400lb cable watching “poor” people might have to get off their fat asses and do something..
Sorry had to let that out, I m better now.

Mayan scholars say the 2012 prediction is a misinterpretation. It is, in fact, New Age mumbo-jumbo.
But if I go by my experience with this stuff, you’ll prolly actually cling to the concept of the world ending in four years as more comforting somehow. Feel free to prove me wrong.

Me!?!?! i was just being a smart ass. I think it is interesting that many cultures have pointed to this date as the end. The concept of pole shifting is also intriguing. Revelations has been interpreted to mean everything from tomorrow to the time of John. I’m not planning my life around it. I’m more worried about Iran and the Democrats bring an end to the world as we know it.
Maybe the Mayans just ran out of stone when they made the calender?

Eh, I think the whole “many cultures point to it” is just the New Age crowd interpreting stuff to fit something they’d gotten from one poorly-translated source.

First off, when the revolution comes it depends more on what we are revolting about than the population. Guns? Abortion? Race Relations? DSL vs. Cable? Some might just not be that drawn into the conflict because they just do not feel that passionate about it. Its when its long and drawn out and people just can’t avoid that the number of participents goes up. The way to win is to hit hard and fast, and make sure we win quickly, like the coups in a South American country.
And Rann’s right, most of that is just New Age Mumbo jumbo that takes some from many different cultures to make a collage of beliefs. But, I too cling to the hope that we only have 4 more years…

An interesting factoid I remember reading several years ago was that when a random group of people were asked whether they would like to be made immortal, if that process were inexpensive and painless, and more than half of them said “No”.
That means that a majority of people are apparently looking forward to dying.
