Finally, a post about Jericho - Jennings & Rall

I’ve been holding off on this one, because the first two just fell flat to me.  But this last one finally felt like the show was hitting another stride.  Spoilers after the jump!

My initial complaint was likely the same as everyone else who saw the season finale, then this new premiere: Are you kidding me?  That’s all of the Battle of New Bern we get?  What the ever-loving hell?  I of course realize that they are compressing a 13 episode arc into 7.  I understand that they need to move forward very quickly to get us to the J&R/Ravenwood/US Army/Cheyenne storyline.  It didn’t change the fact that the first two episodes suffered greatly, though.  Knowing they were forced to compress time did not make me enjoy it more.

This week, though...the Jericho we loved was back.  Jake and the town against whatever may come.  This time it was like all the right notes were being played in the right order and they sounded good.  I even liked the soap opera out at the farm with Stanley and Mimi.  I was very happy to see that Dale has come into his own as the trader/store owner.  He’s like a mini Jake-in-training.

Speaking of Jake...not sure how I feel about what they told about his time in Iraq.  It seems forced, but then I also feel like it isn’t a newly-developed plot twist. I think it was always the plan.  I also think it’s not necessarily a negative, attack-style Hollywood storyline or anything.  That kind of things does happen.  They were pretty careful to let the viewers know that gunmen were the main targets and the four civilians that died weighed heavily on Jake’s conscience.

So what is it about D.B. Sweeney that makes you want to punch him in the face?  I can’t remember a character he’s played that I didn’t dislike.  In a good way, I mean I’m supposed to hate the guys he plays, and he’s good at it.  Looking forward to the inevitable two-bulls-clashing confrontation that will likely leave him dead at Jake’s hand.

What will Beck do when he finds out who Hawkins is?  You know he will.  I think it’s pretty clear that he’s a military man, sure, but he;s a decent man first, and I think he now knows that the Cheyenne government is rotten.  By the way, how great has Esai Morales been?  He’ll always be a combination of Paco Moreno and Raymi Rojas for me, but he’s come a long way since then…

Last question: Did the Cheyenne elements, led by Valente, plant the Hudson River virus?

I actually felt the same way about Skeet Ulrich until this show (Scream, As Good As It Gets, The Craft).

What will Beck do when he finds out who Hawkins is?

Well, let’s think about Beck for a Minute yes beck is a soldier of the United States Army, the bigger question is why did beck forsake the United States Constitution, that he swore to defend against all enemies, foreign and domestic? Why did he join a new team. Did he see the writing on the wall? Was he conned into this new concept of the Allied States of America? So the big question about Beck is: Where is Beck’s allegiance, is it to The Allied States of America, or to the United States Constitution that he swore as an Officer in the United States Army to Defend?

I think Beck’s action towards Hawkins depends upon Beck’s loyalty to what he swore to do as an offficer in the United States Army. The man does have a definite conscience, it should be interesting to see where Beck’s loyalties really lie.

Did the Cheyenne elements, led by Valente, plant the Hudson River virus?

Biological warfare against the remnants of the United States Government to secure the power base of the Allied States of America. This would seem plausible and all it would take to make it a Botched (oops) attack would be a simple shift in the winds.

I’m fairly smart but for some damn reason these story lines leave me feeling like I missed things. Anyone else feel that way? Some of it is starting to clear up but when I read the posts it seems as if I’m missing parts of the show. For example, I’m still not 100% sure why Hawkins has a Nuclear bomb. I know he is hiding to use as evidence...it’s just I’m not 100% sure why he had it in the first place and allowed all of the others to go off and kept this one and ran.

PS Anyone seen New Amsterdam? Tell me that is not a total and complete rip off of Highlander, The Series. Are any of them the same writers? If not the joke about getting his head cut off was a cheap shot.

I need to drink more. I can’t seem to follow anything these days!

After the most recent episode ("Oversight"), D.B. Sweeney is officially King Dick of the Universe.  Yes, I definitely want to punch him in the face--with a fire axe.  Well the character, anyway.

RIP, Bonnie.  You died a hero.  At least it looks like you took a few of the bastards with you.

Too bad we’re down to three episodes, although I blame the producers for waiting this long to show a good one.  Hopefully Sci-Fi can pull something together to get a season 3.
