Have yourself a Bill O’Reilly Christmas…

...And tell lots of lies
from now on,
the truth will wear a sad disguise…

Bill O’Reilly yesterday absurdly — and falsely — claimed that Sears won’t use the word “Christmas” in its advertising, but the front page advertising on its web page has right on it the words

“we wish you a merry christmas”

above a link to the Sears “Chrismas Shop”. Let me say that again. Its Chrismas Shop.

The full article, while not spelling Christmas correctly ;), definitely spells out just how Christmas-sy Sears is...as Greg put it:

Will someone please get the word out? You can’t turn around in Sears without running into “Merry Christmas.”

Got it.  Sears = Christmas like a muh-fugga.  See also: O’Reilly’s a tool.  Stop paying attention to him.  I’m talking to you, my fellow right-leaning peeps.  The man has a Powerpoint-deep education on any given subject.  Stop watching him.  Let him die on the vine like the vegetable he is.

Hat tip: Ace of Spades (I sing it like Lemme every time I see the site name in my Firefox tab.  “The ayce of spay-ades, the ayce of spay-ades...")

Careful, Jim, I think he (or one of the staffers) reads your stuff. Proof will come when he retracts that story. If he does.

Say, where’s the Starkcast, d00d? I’m gettin’ shaky without my weekly fix…

I believe his gripe (I saw the show, actually a few, in question but wasn’t paying much attention) was that they refused to use “Merry Christmas” in their print advertisments.  I do not remember him claiming they don’t allow their employees to say Merry Christmas.

Note also that he said that Sears wouldn’t answer questions, so he may have made bad assumptions based on their lack of answering, though making assumptions is always a bad thing to do.

Also note that the links are to web pages, which might have been changed in the last few days, or might not have been considered in his initial reports at all (I’m pretty sure he did say print advertising).

I’m just saying.. he might not be “lying” but just might be focusing on the print ads.

Watch his show today or listen on the radio and see if he says anything about the website and such.

if one is very religious, why would one want sears and shopping and commercial enterprise in general to be what xmas is all about?

... i’m just sayin’

Heh. Xmas. Futurama.
Futurama’s transition to “Xmas” is interesting, because like much of the possible commentary in Futurama it can be taken various ways. Like Xmas has become more than a religious holiday and is simply celebrated across the board, without its original roots. Or, that we’d become so affraid of offering religious offense but that we still want to be commercial that we’d celebrate a holiday with all the meaning taken out of it.
Xmas. Wheeeee.
