Heroes just pissed me off a little UPDATED - No, no it didn’t, plus stuff about Nikki/Jessica

OK, based on the good arguments made in the comments below, I am retracting my complaint, which is still a spoiler and so remains after the jump.  You guys convinced me...also I was flat out wrong on that timeline thing which had a lot to do with my reaction.  Also, some discussion on Nikki/Jessica after the old part of the post

So Ando and Hiro are always great on this show.  They’re written well and performed excellently.  Until tonight.

Ando left Hiro behind because some Anna Nicole-looking blonde kissed him?  ANDO?  WTF?  That’s totally out of character and it sucked.  This is the guy who waited six months in Texas for his friend to come back.  He has committed his entire life to helping hiro fulfill his destiny.  And he just leaves for some Amazonian showgirl?

No.  See, that’s how it starts.  Little violations of a character like that.  Pretty soon, Fonzi is jumping sharks on water skis.

Other than that, I loved the episode.  I’m even interested in how messed up Cheerleader’s mom is getting.

*UPDATE*

I am seeing some talk around the blogs about the Nikki/Jessica conversation in the stairwell and how Matt was able to hear them both.  A lot of people seem to be under one of two impressions.

Theory 1 - Nikki and Jessica are physically two separate people.  No.  Not true.  The producers and directors need to show her to US as two people, but those two people inhabit one body.  The two entities have different physical characteristics, like the tattoo and Jessica’s superhuman strength, but it’s one body.

- Sub-theory 1a - Nikki was the one Matt handcuffed.  No.  They are one body.  Jessica threw Matt through the window and she was wearing the broken handcuffs when she did it.

Theory 2 - Matt heard her mind arguing with itself.  NO.  When Matt hears thoughts, they have always been extra careful to denote that as different.  It’s echo-y and ethereal.  Matt heard Nikki and Jessica speaking out of the same mouth in two distinct voices.  Out loud.  Nikki was able to get enough strength up to make herself seem distinct to Jessica, to take just enough control of the body to say her piece but not enough to stop Jessica.

Also, can i just say that besides being the hawtness, Ali Larter is doing an amazing job at bringing both of these women to life as very similar but very distinct people?  She looks different when she’s Nikki.  Older.  Less sure of herself.  Less...alive.  Her voice is a little whiny, a little more nervous.  She walks with no real style.  But as Jessica...she’s walking sex and danger.  She struts, she holds her head up, she talks in a slightly smokier voice, and she carries a look in her eye that basically says she will fuck you and then kill you.  Mad props to Ali for doing such a great job keeping these two personalities separate and giving them little touches that bring them to life as individuals.

24 and heroes get pwned by Sheen

Well slap my ass and call me Jenna.  The real question wasn’t Heroes vs. 24, it was Two and a Half Men vs. both of ‘em.  WTF?

In the face-off between Fox’s “24” and NBC’s “Heroes” the winner was CBS’ “Two and a Half Men.” The sitcom stars Charlie Sheen, Jon Cryer and Angus T. Jones

The comedy attracted 15.9 million viewers Monday. “Heroes” averaged 14.9 million for the hour while “24” gripped 14.5 million. In terms of 18-to-49 viewers—the count that advertisers care about—“Heroes” was out out in front, followed by “24,” then “Two and a Half Men.”

So Heroes did beat 24...maybe sharks have in fact been leaped over while water skiing?  The idea that Two and a Half Men could trump them both is both surprising and obvious - the average American loves banal, boring comedy.  To wit: the career of Dane Cook. 

Can you imagine?  Charlie Sheen, sex addict, hooker-banger extraordinaire, former coke whore, boozer and general all-around party machine, is in the most popular middle-of-the-road comedy this season.  What a world.

Is NBC making a huge mistake pitting Heroes against 24

It kinda seems crazy.

Talk about a superhero showdown. In a risky counterprogramming move, NBC will begin pitting its fall hit, Heroes, tonight against Fox’s anti-terrorist thriller, 24, and its larger-than-life protagonist Jack Bauer

This doesn’t mean jack (get it!?!?) to people with DVRs, but to those viewers enslaved by a network’s programming schedule, how on earth do you make this decision?  Is 24 that much of a juggernaut?  If so, why even mess around?  Why not completely own a timeslot that isn’t currently filled with a monster hit?  I don’t see why you would force an audience to split like this.  Half of a large number is not nearly as good as all of a large number.  But what the hell do I know, I still think Arrested Development and Firefly never should have come close to cancellation.  I’m no brilliant network executive.

Hey, is “brillant network executive” an oxymoron?  It sure seems like it.

Seems like a smarter move would be to put Heroes up against Prison Break, which will be over for the season soon, and then that slot will be taken by Tim Minear’s new show Drive.  Now, I love Minear.  I love all his work, and I plan to watch Drive, especially since Nathan Filion is going to be the lead.  However, I am also a realist, and I know that Heroes is too strong for a new show to beat unless that new show is the best show ever made.  On top of that, you can probably pull some of Prison Break‘s audience away, whereas 24‘s audience is fiercely loyal.  Seriously, Jack just watched a nuke go off like a half mile away from him and the wind didn’t even dry his man-tears.  How can you not watch that?  He’s like Superman, Jesus and Dick Cheney all rolled into one.

Jack Bauer can kick Hiro’s ass, I’m sorry.  Sword or no sword, Jack Bauer has risen from the dead.  End of discussion.  ;)

Heroes - working for me!

So...Heroes tonight?  Looks like I won the prediction pool over at this thread at Drumwaster’s. (spoilers, obviously!) I kind of cheated because the one I picked was a hedge, but still.

I’m REALLY liking the show.  I might start giving it the Battlestar treatment if it keeps up being this cool.  And now - SPOLIERS BELOW!

So why did Sylar not want to break out, since it was obvious that he could at any time?  Was he hoping to collect more special people and that’s like, special person central?

Peter’s the human bomb, huh?  So how?  How’s this for a theory - He absorbs way too much power when all the heroes come together in the same place.  At the atomic level, his body starts to have a reaction - fission, I suppose.  Due to the Cheerleader’s indestructable power, he stays stable long enough to let the reaction build up to critical mass until he can’t contain it, and BOOM.  BTW, he’s not dead, I think he still has the cheerleader’s healing power or at least enough to stay alive.

I liked that Haitian Mind Sucker switched it up and changed teams.  But.

But.

What if HRG Guy is actually the good guy here?  What if he’s trying to stop the heroes from gathering?  What if he knows?  What if ultimately Sylar is the good guy, albeit for all the wrong reasons.  What if the bomb can only go off if a certain combination of heroes get together, and Sylar’s destiny is to stop that combination from happening?

Of course I think some of this may be red herring material.  Comics are about good guys and bad guys.  They said it on the show tonight.  SO maybe the guys we think are bad simply are, and the good people are what they seem to be - good.

Heroes - working for you?

Sorry about yesterday...it was one of those busy, kind-of-painful-physically days.  My neck hurts, and my pimp says I gotta start sucking mor/// Umm...nevermind, I can’t talk about that.  ;)

So...Heroes?  Normally I write these big 2000 word posts about a show, but this time I thought I’d just ask - How’s it going for you?  What’d you think of the fact that NBC hyped (to hell and back again) the fact that last week we’d know exactly why saving the cheerleader would save the world and then the episode itself didn’t actually answer that question?  Did you enjoy it anyway?  How much of a jerk is HRG Guy?  But then he’s still a dad, so, can you really blame him?  How much do you want to see Hiro hook up with super memory waitress girl?  :)
