“Well what would *you* have done?”

I have defended George W. Bush on this whole “7 minutes” issue many a time.  Some people confuse this with unwavering support of everything the man does.  That’s stupid and naive.  There are many things for which to legitimately criticize Bush.  I do not believe this issue is one of those things.

One of the questions I see asked at least once each time the topic comes up is “Well what *you* have done?”

Well, first of all, what you would have seen on a tape of President Kenefick is EXACTLY what you saw in the tape of George W. Bush.  To your knowledge, I would be doing absolutely nothing.  I would be sitting there, barely glancing at the book, waiting for this to be over and for the Secret Service to give the all clear.  And that is all you would have seen on any tape.  Period.

However, that wouldn’t mean, as Michael Moore said about Bush, that “Nearly seven minutes passed with nobody doing anything.  Let me explain just a little of what President Kenefick would be like.

Hezbollah says yes to Farenheit 9/11!

Again we have an example of those that wish America ill siding with the democrats and their propaganda machine.  In this case we have Hezbollah, a Lebanese terrorist organization that gets both its financial backing and political direction from no other nation than Iran: a country that is not only openly hostile to the US, but knows that with a democrat in the white House they might be able to sign some dubious nuclear non-proliferation agreement, and then just break it – the agreement signed by the Clinton White House with North Korea where we allowed ourselves to pay some serious blackmail tribute for a promise that was broken before the ink on the paper was even dry (or while Madeline Albright was being twirled around by the commie king) comes to mind - and continue there pursuit of the bomb.

Wow, this is a stupid idea

SUBWAY PIX FACE BAN

Shutter-bugged transit bosses want to ban taking photos or using a camcorder on subways, as they focus on stopping terrorists.

The Transit Authority yesterday proposed the measure, which would include cellphone cameras, in a bid to prevent thugs from taking surveillance shots of potential underground targets.

“These changes to our rules of conduct are intended to enhance security and safety, not only for our customers, but our employees, as well,” said TA President Larry Reuter.

The agency said exceptions would be made for journalists with valid press IDs or those who have express city consent to take pictures.

Critics said the rule would infringe on rights and be unfair to tourists.

“The rule provides two exceptions that raise serious First Amendment issues of favoring one kind of expression over another,” said Gene Russianoff, staff lawyer for the Straphangers Campaign.

The measure would allow cops to question anyone taking pictures or shooting film and give officers the option of issuing a summons or confiscating the film. NYPD spokesman Michael Collins refused to comment.

“Taking pictures in the subway is part of the experience of being in the city,” said Cristyne Nicholas, president of the city’s tourism agency. “I hope the police will be very understanding to tourists.”

Right after 9/11, we saw a lot of people using variations on the phrase “If we change our way of life, then the terrorists have already won.”

Guess what?  THIS IS CHANGING OUR WAY OF LIFE, AND THE TERRORISTS HAVE ALREADY WON.

It’s one thing to tighten security.  It’s quite another to stop subway photography in NYC.  Millions of subway photos are taken every year.  I can search online right now and I’ll be you that within a few hours, I could have detail on the layout of virtually every major station in the city.  Using perfectly legal means, I could probably get the freaking building plans.  There have been enough historical books on teh subect of the NYC subway system alone to teach ten generations what they need to know in order to bomb the place.

It’s a stupid target anyway.  It’s totally invisible to the press.  There would be some pictures, but any underground bombing will result in an area that cannot be seen the way the WTC was.  Terrorists want visibility, and lots of it.

Let the people take the pictures.  Millions of perfectly decent people will take millions of perfectly harmless photos.  Don’t throw the baby out with the bathwater.

Old blog entries - 9/11 part 1

Long before I had Right Thoughts, I had a weblog that was just part of my old personal webpage, which I had been keeping alive in some form or another since 1992(?) when Prodigy started giving us web space...those were the days.

Anyway, I found some archives that I thought were lost.  One of them is the week of 9/11.

If you’re interested, this is what I had to say that day.

9/11 One year later

(Originally posted to my old blog, reposted here for archival purposes)

I have been deliberately avoiding writing about this subject until today. I haven’t answered anyone else’s posts about it nor shared my thoughts...I knew I was going to write something today, and I thought I would just save it all up. In some way it felt cheap to do it any other time, like celebrating Christmas three days early because you’ll be busy that day.

Well, I’m not busy now.

By the way, this may not make a of of sense, I’m just writing as it comes out. It will likely be disjointed, but it will be real. Also, I apologize in advance for the length. I’m not saving space today. I’m not worrying about the formatting of webpages today. I’m just going to write.
