Why is James Lileks allergic to RSS?
Seriously, is it like a physical condition?
I *heart* James Lileks. I think he’s a fantastic writer, a good storyteller and and an all-around genuinely decent guy from all I know, which is his work and how others talk about him. But.
How could such a smart person who is so significantly involved online not understand how stupid it is not to syndicate all that syndicatable (is that a word?) content?
Who publishes a blog that doesn’t have a feed? Much less two?!? And what human would (semi) regularly create radio for downloading in the year 2005 and not offer it in the podcast format...which is to say the same as he’s doing now only in an RSS 2.0 feed?
Can someone who knows the guy maybe talk some sense into him? I’m seriously about to just stop going to his projects online, it’s just ridiculous that there’s no RSS. It’s not like he’d lose traffic...offer a three-sentence teaser and a link to the rest of the new article in your feed. No traffic loss whatsoever. In fact I would predict a significant gain by those who now see new content daily as opposed to whenever they remember that “Hey that one guy doesn’t have a feed so I have to check the site the old-fashioned way.”
I know, I know, the blogosphere just convinced him to do permalinks...I may as well be asking ants to build me a rocketship.
