Why is James Lileks allergic to RSS?

Seriously, is it like a physical condition?

I *heart* James Lileks.  I think he’s a fantastic writer, a good storyteller and and an all-around genuinely decent guy from all I know, which is his work and how others talk about him.  But.

How could such a smart person who is so significantly involved online not understand how stupid it is not to syndicate all that syndicatable (is that a word?) content?

Who publishes a blog that doesn’t have a feed?  Much less two?!?  And what human would (semi) regularly create radio for downloading in the year 2005 and not offer it in the podcast format...which is to say the same as he’s doing now only in an RSS 2.0 feed?

Can someone who knows the guy maybe talk some sense into him?  I’m seriously about to just stop going to his projects online, it’s just ridiculous that there’s no RSS.  It’s not like he’d lose traffic...offer a three-sentence teaser and a link to the rest of the new article in your feed.  No traffic loss whatsoever.  In fact I would predict a significant gain by those who now see new content daily as opposed to whenever they remember that “Hey that one guy doesn’t have a feed so I have to check the site the old-fashioned way.”

I know, I know, the blogosphere just convinced him to do permalinks...I may as well be asking ants to build me a rocketship.

It sounds like Lileks is actually asking for advice on how to do this:

“Re: the Screedblog, and Diner podcasts. I need RSS feeds. Obviously. I have no idea how to do them. It’s one of those areas where I’ve run smack up against the limits of my knowledge, and I have no idea how to construct the code that lets me add a feed. (Bleg: fence@startribune.com. Assume the Screedblog feed would be lileks.com/screedblog/screed.xml, and the Diner lileks.com/diner05/podcasts/podcasts.xml. Or something like that. I don’t know. I suck.)”

I know, I got all excited and posted about it.  I’d offer to set him up but he’s probably got like 872 people ready to do it already…

I love his Diner shows.  Syndicating more of them will be great.

Silly me, I didn’t see your post today.  As soon as I read Lileks, I headed right over here, because I figured you would be pleased.

Lileks is brilliant, and probably my favorite writer.
