Why can’t I keep them clean?

I have glasses...originally I got them because the target at the shooting range was always slightly out of focus.  Turns out I have a slight astigmatism in my right eye and the teeny-tiniest bit of weak focus in my left.  Glasses cleared it right up.  I pretty much only wore them shooting until very recently.  Seems that living in front of a monitor is bad for your eyes.

CVS can be headaches. Yes.
CVS can be dry or irritated eyes. Yes.
CVS can be blured vision (distance or near) Yes and yes.
CVS can be eyestrain. Yes.
CVS can be slow refocusing. Yes.
CVS can be neck and/or backaches. Yes.
CVS can be double vision. Yes.

So, I’m wearing my glasses a lot more these days.  Is it actually physically impossible to keep glasses clean?  Within 30 seconds of putting them on, the lenses are smudged somehow.  Is this a law of nature?  I just now washed them under the faucet because all I was doing with the cloth was smearing oils around the lens.

I’m starting to understand why people deal with contacts.

Yes, it really is like that. Forget cooking meat while they’re on, they’ll be covered in spatter and a thick haze without your face ever coming -near- the cooking surface.
Boy oh boy I can’t wait to get lasered in the eyeball. ~.~

I’ve been wearing glasses since I was about halfway through my kindergarten year. And, yes, it is physically impossible to keep them clean. The best you can hope for is that they don’t get too bad in between the hourly cleanings. I think it has to do with the miniscule amount of natural oils found on your eyelashes transferring itself to the inside of the lenses.

Or maybe that’s just me.

My vision is awful. 20/500+. So bad, in fact, my glasses are thick enough that the range people don’t require me to wear separate safety glasses.

Which is nice because the glasses are slightly over-powered, so that my corrected vision is about 20/15.

Mine usually stay pretty clean.  My problem is that my oils and sweat coming off my body seems to be slightly more acidic than the average person, and so after a year or 2 even though my eyesight is the same, the coating on the lenses has worn away in several places where they touch my skin.

Contacts aren’t so bad once you get used to them. It takes about a week for your eyes to adjust, but after that, you’re set!

I’d highly recommend the O2Optix. They let your eyes “breath” so it doesn’t feel like you’re wearing goggles 24/7.

I work in food services so when i’m standing in front of the fryers or broiler, my glasses literally form another layer of grease, it’s horrible. I love it though because after an 11 hour shift of never cleaning my glasses, I go to wash them off and put them back on and it’s…

I CAN SEE!!!!!!!!!

It’s the feeling of getting a brand new pair of eyes everyday.

Last time I had my vision checked (maybe 3 or 4 years ago) they told me it was 20/20.

The eye doctor also told me at the time that there is no known connection between excessive computer use and eye damage except that some people tend not to blink enough while staring at TV’s or monitors.

Of course, he could be wrong.  Anyway, I’m somewhat worried that I may be slowly blinding myself… but at the same time, I have no idea what to do about it.

*cues music* everything I love is blinding me… video games, computers and tv…
