Who needs government to do everything?
As usual, Americans step up when needed. $45,306,000 AND COUNTING
That’s the estimated amount that private American individuals, groups and companies have already donated to help victims of Hurricane Katrina.
Chuck Simmins is keeping track.
No waiting for the feds. No waiting for the celebs. No waiting for the U.N. and the “international community.”
I ask that some of you not forget the stranded animals. That big Humane Society banner goes direct to their donations page.

Everything? No.
Most/many things disaster related (especially the big cost things like levee and pump repair)? Definitely. As generous as people are, and they really are generous, they aren’t going to raise the multi-billion (I’m guessing, I haven’t heard $$ figures yet) it is going to cost to get New Orleans back to a functioning state.
And as always, when tragedy strikes our friends to the south, Canada has its disaster response teams on standby to help you guys out. You’d do the same for us!
