Uhh…is Bill Richardson insane?
God loves Iowa more than any other state?
God’s will is for Iowa to have the first-in-the-nation caucus, Democratic presidential candidate Bill Richardson told a crowd here Monday.
“Iowa, for good reason, for constitutional reasons, for reasons related to the Lord, should be the first caucus and primary,” Richardson, New Mexico’s governor, said at the Northwest Iowa Labor Council Picnic. “And I want you to know who was the first candidate to sign a pledge not to campaign anywhere if they got ahead of Iowa. It was Bill Richardson.”
Several people in the crowd snickered after Richardson made the comment.
“That was a little weird,” said Sioux City resident Joe Shufro. “I don’t know what God had to do with choosing Iowa among other states. I found that a little strange.”
I suppose it’s no crazier than boxers thanking God for helping them beat a guy into early Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. I’m sure God is all about beating a guy in the face repeatedly until he loses the ability to speak, and of course Iowa voting first. Makes perfect sense.
You want to see some real hypocrisy in action though? Check it:
“It’s the kind of thing that would make me wince if, for instance, George Bush said it,” Hodge said. “Richardson has the saving grace of not taking himself too seriously. It was one of those off-the-cuff remarks that can’t be taken as seriously as the punsters will make it.”
So if Bush said it, then she’d take it seriously? Well now. Not a lot needs to be said about that, eh?

So if Bush said it, then she’d take it seriously?
Or any of the GOP candidates, I suppose. But a Democratic candidate? No fuckin’ way, because that doesn’t fit the metanarrative.

They know that when a democrat is invoking God its just to get all those stupid religious people on their side and they don’t really mean it. And that’s ok with them. Its those dirty republicans that worry them because when they talk about god it sounds like they really believe in him. And believing in something besides their own power is just scary.
