Time out
I have to take some time off, a day or two learn to type with different fingers (added after blogging a ton of crap anyway). My cat attacked me last night in a way I have never seen a domestic animal attack it’s owner, and my index finger is useless. It hurts really bad, and i likely need to see a doctor, i think the puncture wounds are infected.
Needless to say, typing is a chore and a half when you only type with four fingers and one of them is taken away. ;)
In the meantime, use the open forum to talk about whatever.
*UPDATE*
OK, OK! I went! Doc says infected like a muh-fug, gave me a tetanus shot and 10 days of an antibiotic whose name I forgot but will be starting when I pick it up later. You guys were all right, cat bites, although to me it seemed silly, can be really serious. I’ll not take it so lightly next time. She warned me about bone infections and whatnot.
Further advice from the (female) doctor: Never break up a cat fight, between cats or ladies. ;)
So here’s the story:
Preston, who has always been aggressive in his play, has been getting progressively more aggressive toward Morgana, who is now ten years old, has severe asthma and deserves better than to be beaten up in her own house.
Monday morning (night for me) Preston went after first her sister, then Morgana. Now, we used to think he was just trying to play, as I said, he’s tough and fiesty, but it;s been downright mean lately and getting worse, so now I intervene, usually by yelling at him or throwing something. I keep balled up socks and a 2-liter bottle handy, they both seem to scare him.
The last time, I decided to catch him as he was doing it and smack his ass. Just so you know, one of my cats loves to be spanked. I shit you not. She BEGS for it. She gets down on the floor and flips on her side and presents her ass, and will meow and almost how until you smack her...and she’s not satisfied until you hit her hard. Harder than I am comfortable with, actually. It’s the wierdest damned thing. I say this because by comparison, I smacked Preston’s ass about as hard as I spank Gwynnie.
So this time, he goes after ‘Gana and I go after him. I reach out to grab him like I have three thousand times and he literally transformed before my eyes. He puffed up, got low and started this howl/growl that I have NEVER heard him make before, ever. I though it was fear until he turned on my hand and started biting and kicking. He has a technique, we call it cat jiu-jitsu. He rolls to his back like a Gracie jiu-jitsu fighter, wraps his front legs around his opponent or my arm, guts with his back feet like a rabbit, and sinks his teeth deep fast and with great force into whatever he’s holding.
When other cats play, they “love bite.” He bites for keeps, all the time. This was without a doubt the hardest he has ever tried to bite me, and he got me right in the joint. I finally got him off me after he tore up my other arm & hand (just scratches) and threw a sheet over him and we’ve been keeping him in the spare bedroom ever since with his own food water and litter. When I visit him, he’s the sweetest thing, like it never happened, but I just don’t trust him now.
I know, this is stupid, but I raised the little shit and as any cat owner will tell you, cats choose a person, and he choose me. I find it hard to believe that one smack on the ass after he attacked Morgana would lead him to turn on me...we’re worried that he’s got some kind of agressiveness that is coming out as he gets older. Donna’s neighbor had a cat (jo-jo, ask about Biscuit!) who needed to be sedated she was so mean. I really hope that I don’t have to sedate the boy (we call him that like it’s his name, The Boy).
prestonbiteback.jpg - Those two dots are puncture marks. Oww.
prestonbitefront.jpg - None of these are scratches. All teeth. Little bastard...
P.S. - When you can’t type well due to finger injury, thumbtyping on a PocketPC is a viable option!

They don’t call it “Cat Scratch Fever” for nothing, pal. Get it looked at.
Now.

I second Drum, don’t mess around with that. Doctor. Today. Leave now. Cats keep some nasty bacteria in their mouths. Nothing overly hard to kill if you catch it early, but they’ve shown us enouch “3 days post-bite” pictures that I’m no longer tempted to wait and see how things work out on their own.

Sorry to hear about that. I have another problem. Stupid sinus infection that kepps my throat sore and a cough that won’t go away. I guess I will finally break down and go to the doctor. Geez, I’m not sick all winter, and in 3 weeks I get a bad case of the stomach flu, and now this....at least it is warming up here. Will be HOT before we know it. By the by, anyone live in Indianapolis? My hubby and I will be there for the Indy 500, fulfilling a lifelong dream to be there. Just want to get some insight on what to plan for weatherwise.

I’m from Indy, and you should know that Indiana weather is some of the strangest around. You won’t know until the day before what the weather really is going to be like. Last year it rained like a bastard right after the race, so this year it should be very nice weather. That seems to be the system.

And after you get back from the doctor...get rid of the cat. It’ll be cathartic.

Jim- why did the cat attack you? Did you baste your finger in fish oil? HA HA just kidding
I hope that everything is ok and it’s nothing too serious.
Mommy...I hope that you feel better soon.
Love to both of you.

my cat attacked me one night as well. Thats why I dont want another cat in my home again. After it had mauled me I was able to throw it into a closet and get into another room. I placed a brick on my bedroom door that night, just for the hell of it and the next morning noticed that the cat had dug the carpet up trying to get at me while I was sleeping. FUCK CATS.

Jeez, I’ve never known cats to just randomly attack their owners.
That sucks that your cat did that to you.

Dude, to discipline a cat, unless you have one of those shoulder length heavy leather gloves, you use a water pistol, loaded with lemon juice. Cats hate to get wet, and they will lick their coat to get rid of the sensation, licking up the lemon juice, which they REALLY hate.
A few shots with that, and all it takes is reaching for the gun to cause them to take off running.
Totally organic and non-toxic. :-)

nastynate...thanks for the info, my hubby and I look forward to being there. I am a western girl and have only been to Orlando, but hubby was born in NY (Flushing). To Janna, Thanks sweetie. I am still fighting this stupid sinus stuff, actually felt better yesterday, but coughed my head off almost all last night. Back to square one, I guess.

Taken the cat to the vet to see if it’s contracted something yet? o.O
