This is how you bring the hammer down on Bush
How is it possible that four years after 9/11, the president treats a federal agency vital to homeland security as a patronage prize? The main reason I’ve been a Bush supporter all along is I trusted him (note past tense) on national security—which, in the age of mass terrorism, means homeland security too. Call me naive, but it’s a real blow to learn that political hacks have been running FEMA, of all agencies of the federal government!
Bingo. Attacking Bush for thing that the City of New orleans and the State of Louisiana should have done is stupid. This is teh right criticism. I voted for Bush for one reason: Terrorism/security. Maybe the gun thing as a distant second, since Bush is no real friend to the Second, but he’s better than the alternative.
However, first and foremost it was security. And now I know he put my security in the hands of a miserable, failed middle-manager type with no skills whatsoever. And that angers me in ways I can’t begin to tell the GOP.
But I’ll find a way to tell them come mid-term elections, you can bet on that.

Katrina chose the target and delivered the devastating opening salvo. All the evil doers had to do in the early assault was to blow up the levees. This was to flood the city ruin homes and drive out the citizens. In short, this has all the markings of a massive urban renewal effort.
Who showed up at the party? Outfits such as the carrier USS Harry S Truman could nuke the city if the looters got out of hand. The 82nd Airborne moved in full battle gear. Where did they think they were? Baghdad?
Exactly, the Americans react to everything with a military response, the prisoners rounded up and isolated in the Astrodome. The pundits predict they will be there six months. What do you bet that anyone will ever return to his home?
My feeling is the administration won’t get away with this one. Good at intimidating peasants who never had one day of freedom, they will fall to the children of the Selma march and the Montgomery bus boycott.
They will fall to the thousands of obnoxious reporters who will come to the city for the story behind the story the next Watergate scandal.
In my opinion, only Secretary of Slate Condoleezza Rice has the moral integrity and the wit to blow the whistle on this fiasco. If she doesn’t, the Europeans and Asians who are sending $billions in humanitarian aid lost in transit will register criminal complaints. The administration should sit in prison for its crimes against humanity.
The USA needs to do at least one good deed.
New Orleans and its citizens are too precious to lose to a real estate swindle.
