Talking to the press

I just got back from being interviewed by a reporter for the New Haven Register...really cool conversation, mostly centered around the divisiveness behind politics lately and what I think causes it.  I won’t go too far into it until after the story comes out (on Oct. 3rd I believe), but we talked a lot about how the Internet has played a role in opening up dialog...for better or worse, and how it;s become hard to talk politics with *anyone* without it getting ugly.

Talking to a print reporter face to face is a new one on me...I enjoyed the conversation though, and I think this will be a good series.  He plans to feature both sides and how they feel about the questions he asked.

It also helped to clarify that I don’t like being lumped into this mold that everyone throws over me when they see the name of this site and that I am voting for Bush.  Have I painted myself into a corner with the title of this blog?  The origins are pretty simple...I *used* to keep a personal-oriented blog at starkthoughts.com.  When I decided to split the political from the personal, I thought of the tag line “Not right wing, just right” as a statement that I wasn’t exclusively a right-winger but I felt I was on the right (as in correct) side of things, and of course it was intended to be boastful.  And a play off my personal blog’s title, which I still love.

Now that the personal site is LONG forgotten...I do get crap once in awhile off the title.  Is it worth trying to change or am I just being sensitive to the label because of the conversation I just had?  I’m curious to know what others think.

For some reason I just submitted a post, and it didn’t show up.

I think what you are currently doing is just fine. You are who you are, and in my opinion, you shouldn’t worry about what others think.  Then again, I’m no expert. I’ve only been blogging myself for a couple of weeks now. The reason this post caught my attention is I also included the word “right” in the name of my blog. The Right Blog

I was a little concerned that some people would simply dismiss me as “just some right-wing” guy, so in my first post, I tried to explain my perspective. I consider myself clearly on the right side of the political spectrum, however, I try to keep an open mind. I invite others to disagree with me on my blog.

Anyway, I’m not trying to plug my own fledgling blog. I think what you are doing is right(that is to say, correct). I’ve been visiting your site for quite some time. My personal interpretation has been that you tend to veer to the right/conservative, but you do not follow the typical conservative ideology blindly. It seems that you are not afraid to challenge conservative perspectives with which you disagree. I think this is cool, and this is how it should be. If I were you I would keep the name the same.

Just thought I’d offer my two cents, since you asked.
