Star Trek: The Next, Next Generation

In the midst of the gag, Laurence Simon has the germ of a great idea for Trek.

I think that the next Star Trek series shouldn’t be about the flagship of the fleet or some intrepid outpost on the fringes that turns out to be the center of the political universe but a crew assigned to all the “shit” jobs in Star Fleet:

...

  • Rabies-testing an entire planet full of tribbles.

A light bulb went off as I was giggling at his various pitches: A drama set at Starfleet HQ in San Francisco, ala West Wing style.

I’m dead serious, it could so work.  You could still get into space and other worlds every now and again, but the meat of the show would be about the people that makes this giant interstellar machine run.  Example of how this mundane sounding pitch can work?  Battlestar Galactica.  That show is NEVER better than when it’s a hand-held in a hallway with two great actors in conflict.

Who do I call?  How do I get paid for this?  :)

sounds interesting. could work, but would it show the pasty liberal view of the Federation, as a sauces.
Or would it be the more invasive realistic look of how the federation is a house of cards commie nightmare, ready to explode?

Personal i d love to see a Fed civil war over the many problems that have been identified over the years about the federation.

REMAKING the orgional series???

PS BG is fracking GREAT!
loved the blood drop scean....I have no clue where they are going with this.

Harley. You have issues. For one thing, that second “Commie” bit, I couldn’t help but picture it in the voice of Fry’s dad from Futurama.

Yes, i have many issues, wel use to but i sold them and started reading better books.

are you disagreeing that the federation is a “socialist utopia”?

I think that the Federation is a poorly-defined FICTIONAL government. They don’t tell us enough about day-to-day life or just how their society functions to know whether it’s socialist or not. You freak.

A money-less society where the needs of all people are provided for and people are free to explore whatever they choose.  Its a pretty socialistic view.
