Sometimes I think all these little things are B.S.
So may people accuse each other of being partisan when partisanship is unwarranted or unwanted. The New York Times gets it all the time, and I think “Oh c’mon...that’s crap, there’s no bias.”
That story I just linked is about how both sides are accusing the other of stalling the bankruptcy act over abortion politics. Bah. Stupidity. This is my problem:
The Senate Democratic leader, Tom Daschle of South Dakota, |
Oh my *GOD*, people , he’s Senate MINORITY...m i n o r i t y...Minority Leader now. Can we say it? Can we fess up and fucking say it now? Do we have to play these little labeling games in the newspaper to as not to diminish the great stature of the Democratic leader of the Senate, the esteemed Mr. Daschle?
I want to poke someone’s eyes out when this petty crap gets my goat. I know I shouldn’t care, but it’s so stupid, and dammit, the New York Times is supposed to be....oh, I don’t know, just NOT STUPID.
Am I reading too much into this?

This is a “lame-duck” session, so the people who lost seats/retired/etc are still there. The new Congress doesn’t assemble until January. So, strictly speaking, Daschle is still the majority leader right now. The Times is referring to him as “Democratic leader” to avoid confusion.
