Something to believe in

Look at this glorious display:

image

Now you tell me that isn’t a reason to live.  A pre-trimmed weight of 7 pounds, 4 ounces.  Gloriously beautiful New York Strips.  A mountain of meat, awaiting a 48 hour soak in a wet marinade, then a brief toweling off before being rubbed with dry seasony goodness, seared to perfection and consumed with great delight.

image

We must form a religion based around this.  We’ll call it Beefism.  Or, to be inclusive of pork and poultry, Fleshism.  Our mortal enemies?  The Vegans.  To paraphrase Animal Mother from Full Metal Jacket, “All fucking vegans must fucking hang.”

Vegans say: “I never eat anything with a face!”

I say: “I eat the face first so I don’t have to listen to the screams.”

#2  Posted by Drumwaster United States on 08/30 at 05:41 PM -

Since when did a double cheeseburger have a face? I know for a fact that a T-bone doesn’t have one…

If man had not been meant to eat meat, we wouldn’t have all those pointy teeth up front - designed for no other reason that to cut and tear flesh. It is the flat-faced molars in back that handle the plant life.

Second, our eyes are located on the same side of the head, allowing for an extremely accurate binocular targeting and tracking system, very common among predatory species, as opposed to creatures that have one eye on either side of their head - like cows, deer, etc.

Those types of animals are better known as “prey”, and their eyes have developed not as a targeting system, but as an early warning system.

I haven’t drooled over 70 dollars worth of beef since that time at the airport lavat--ahh never mind, nothing to see here.

then Puppeteers are certainly predatory animals.., despite all their claims that they are cowards.

Harley, I’d love to see some pics of where the pork comes from!

To all: I see you’ve joined the temple.  Long live the eating of the flesh!  :)

#7  Posted by Drumwaster United States on 08/30 at 08:19 PM -

then Puppeteers are certainly predatory animals

They only have one eye per head, despite having two heads, and the heads are independently movable, yes? That would make them prey, since a predator would have two eyes per head, to make it easier to track and attack the other animals they are trying to eat, even though they are capable of triangulation, it is not a binocular system.

They are also self-described as herd animals, and predators are never described as members of a “herd”, but rather as a “pack” (dogs, wolves, hyenas, etc.).

Their coma reflex is further indicative of prey.

Oh, one last thing: they are also FICTIONAL.

I wonder how they taste?

My best friend was raised Christian-Of-Conscience which is pretty much Hari Krishna with the Jesus-Man. Ergo, No meat at all until he was 18 and could choose for himself. Accordinging to said friend, those sharp bitey things in the front of your mouth were originally developed to deal with tough-skinned melons, not meat. Impossible to prove but an interesting theory nonetheless.

IMHO, veganism is fine. Militant, in your face, so pleased that they’re better than everyone else veganism is trendy, touchy feely bullshit. They’re almost as bad as those damn hybrid-drivers.

If vegetarians eat vegetables, what do humanitarians eat?

Accordinging to said friend, those sharp bitey things in the front of your mouth were originally developed to deal with tough-skinned melons, not meat.

As though cracking them against rocks wasn’t efficient enough.

Like you, I have no problem with vegetarianism. It’s when it turned into the religion of Veganism that it becomes a little creepy.

(Then there is that offshoot described in Notting Hill - Fruitarian, who will only eat fruits and vegetables that have already fallen from the tree or vine.)

Let the vegans eat all the plant matter they want.  When all the meat is eaten, they will be herded and eaten as well.  They’re a bit stringy, but taste good with some salt, pepper, and mesquite smoke.

i can have dry rub, btw… just not that sugary carbfest that probably tastes fantastic but i’ll never know ;)

i’ll once again remind you…

i like my steak to be rare enough that it very well may run away when i try to stab it with a fork.

*nod*

what’s the side dish?  should we bring a salad?

JimK#12  Posted by JimK United States on 08/31 at 12:48 AM -

Everyone’s getting rare...I take it off the heat at 116-119 degrees.  I won’t cook a steak past that.

As for a side, I think the ‘rents are going to get something.  I’m also making the mushrooms & onions to go with the meat.  It’s all you’ll need.  It’s That.  Damn.  Good.

jo-jo#13  Posted by jo-jo United States on 08/31 at 12:58 AM -

i thought the ‘rents liked leatheresque steaks.

ya know… “brown meat”

*shudder*

JimK#14  Posted by JimK United States on 08/31 at 01:33 AM -

Yeah, well, they;re going to eat *good* meat this time.  :)

BTW, Donna wanted me to tell you: Mrs. Cross picked the new colors in the in-laws’ house.  Donna didn’t do it.  Ann has taken over picking everything herself...so...yeah. :)

New York Strip!? My favorite cut of steak!? JimK how did you know?

It looks amazing, i’m sure you’ll be enjoying it quite a bit once you pull them off and slap ‘em on your plate. This past summer I had an uncle who pulled one of his angus off the pasture and butchered him up and handed out the meat, needless to say I ended up with some cuts of NYS that had been on the cow barely 48 hours before hand....oh...my....god, incredible.

jo-jo#18  Posted by jo-jo United States on 08/31 at 11:04 AM -

i don’t know if i have a favorite cut.  i’m pretty content with any high quality cut of bloody meat :)

#19  Posted by Drumwaster United States on 08/31 at 12:24 PM -

I like T-bones and rib eyes. They are probably the most tender cuts of meat on the animal. Marinate in Worcestershire sauce, cook about 3-5 minutes per side for a beautiful medium rare. (The surface and about 1/8” of the interior are light brown and what fat remains has curled up nicely.)

You can cut ‘em with a spoon....
