Screw him

Hey Lucas?  You ruined my childhood memories*.  Screw you.  Sue me. (Warning: Spoliers behind that link.)

*OK, not really.  But his never-ending raping of the original trilogy is just ridiculous.  Once something becomes such a part of the culture of the world, it no longer belongs to him, even if it does legally.  So I speak in hyperbole.  Sue me.  :)

What now?

That is something.

It’d be so nice if that was a good movie but I’m not so sure.

I kind of disagree, I think it looks pretty good, check this site out, they are actually going to make episode 7,8 and 9 eventually.  I think this one looks like the best one since Empire Strikes Back.

I have to say from the picture I’ve seen, this could be the best out of the prequels.  What is against canon in the spoilers so far?

Re: nastynate

Looks like someone giving Lucas a virtual knob-polishing.

Lucas is just pissed that all the writers who came after and wrote stuff in the expanded universe were better than anything he did. ;p
Personally, I think the story of the first Knights of the Old Republic videogame trumps even the original series. It puts “Luke, I am your father” in its place.

JimK, you feel that Lucas shouldn’t have made the prequal trilogy? Granted, everything except the last 20 minutes of EpI sucks. But I liked EpII very much. And, as far as I’m concerned, EpIII will certainly be the best of the prequals...and may even be better than EpV.

Supershadow claimed to have leaked a lot of those pics. JimK where did you get these pictures? Supershadow had his site where he had these pictures closed down by Lucas Film. Does anyone know if Supershadow is for real?

if they do make episode 7,8, and 9, they better do the Thrawn trilogy… if made even half way decent, they could easily rival the originals. and thats no shit. oh, and i think ep 1, 2 were good. people say they sucked, but they just dont understand them. they dont realize that the point of them is to explain how Palpatine came to power, and became emperor, and how darth vader went from little slave boy who they called “ani” which sounds feminine, to a dark lord of the sith who will crush your larynx if you fart within 50 yards of him

This could be the best Starwars flick ever!  Have anyone ever read the original screenplay of StarWars epIV:New Hope?  It begins with a prolouge(sp?) of the battle sequence between Obi-Wan and Anakin near a lava pit. You can’t buy this screenplay with that prolouge anymore.  You could probably find an old copy at a library if you’re lucky.  I was seriously hoping episode3 depicts how Anakins “becomes” Darth Vader… and it looks like I won’t be disappointed!

Jim. come on look at the pic’s This movie is gonan kick ass...!

bought time Lucas grew some balls and wrote a Adult movie!

I agree, this one looks like great.

And I don’t find why fans of the original don’t like the prequels. They’ve got a big thing going for them: Jedis and Sith in their prime kicking butt.

#15  Posted by Poosh Europe on 02/24 at 11:08 PM -

Eh, Star Wars isn’t made just for adults. It’s meant to be enjoyed by everybody. Lucas has mananged to make a movie for kids and adults in the prequels however. Menace and Clones, for a big-budget movie, has a good political angle to it. The Republic and the UN can be compared to eachother, for example.

And come on, in the prequels the Jedi, the good guys, the heroes, are DOING THE WORK OF THE BAD GUYS, but just don’t know it. That aint a kiddish concept. When all three movies are put side-by-side, you’ll see them in a whole new light (so long as Lucas doesn’t f*ck this one up).

#16  Posted by Poosh Europe on 02/24 at 11:11 PM -

Oh, and Lucas was stupid, killing off Padme. This contradicts the original movies.

#17  Posted by Labosseuse United States on 02/25 at 01:31 AM -

1.  Lucas was stupid to kill off Padme, as this contradicts Lea’s recollections of her mother.

2.  Lucas was also stupid to let the LOTR guys take a look at what he was doing with special effects.  Now LOTR is superior to Star Wars in special effects AND acting.  There’s more talent in one actor on an LOTR set than there is on all the sets of all the Star Wars movies combined.

Despite all of these facts, I am looking forward to seeing the movie ;-)

#19  Posted by SteveofNorway United States on 02/25 at 02:44 AM -

And Lucas did say this was going to be darker than the standard bearer for Star Wars excellence, The Empire Strikes Back (come on, most people say it’s the best because it’s dark- first and foremost).

Yea it does look pretty good. I really don’t understand why everyone seems to hate the prequels (Granted Jar Jar was a thorn in everyone’s side). The prequels are nothing more than the build up to the original trilogy, im sure it will all make sense once episode 3 comes out, the entire story of Anakin Skywalker could be explained in one continuous stream. Now in 3 we approach the climax that will lead to the downward spiral of Anakin in the original trilogy. Awesome.

My problem is that Hayden Christiansen corrupts like a spoiled teenager, instead of a man who really comes out on the wrong side of good and evil.  And Natalie Portman isn’t better.  They’re all so wooden.

But yes, I think the stories are ok...they keep me interested.

#22  Posted by SteveofNorway United States on 02/25 at 11:47 AM -

If Episode III explains how Anakin becomes Vader, considering he was this precocious kid in Episode I (shouting Yippee!), I’m all for seeing how Lucas does it.

JimK#23  Posted by JimK United States on 02/25 at 02:03 PM -

Let me tell you why I disliked Eps 1&2;.

First of all, JarJar.  That sucked harder than anything has sucked in the SW Galaxy to date.

Secondly, the miond-numbinly obvious racial characteristics Lucas ascribed to some of the races he created for these films.  Lazy, sloppy and I daresay borderline offensive.  The Steppin Fetchit-ness of Jar-Jar was abominable.

I disliked the writing altogether.  It had none of the innocence and joy of the first three films, and that especially includes the Ewoks, which is what everyone brings up when you say you hate Jar-Jar.

The Ewoks were nothing BUT innocent joy, right up until the battle when you realized those little bastards were TOUGH.

Lucas should have turned this project over to someone younger.  He simply doesn’t have the vision for this stuff anymore.  And he’s a hokey, chunky, no-talent director.  Always has been.  He’s MUCH better as a producer.  He’s a broad-stroke guy, and he shoudl leave the detail work to those who are good at it.

That having been said...Hayden Christiansen makes my teeth hurt he’s so awful, but so was Mark Hamill!  As long as I get to see a big space battle, some Jedi kicking tail and Vader destroying them all, I’m good to go.  I’ll forgive whatever is wrong with the film if the action is *right*.

Yes, I’m fucking serious about my Star Wars.  ;)

JimK#24  Posted by JimK United States on 02/25 at 02:08 PM -

if they do make episode 7,8, and 9, they better do the Thrawn trilogy

Oh HELLS yes.  Best story they could do.  I would even go so far as to say screw it, recast all the heros.  They need to be somewhat young-ish.

Thrawn would be a bad guy to rival Vader for screen presence if done correctly.  And I think I know just who should play him.

Jeremy Irons.

Think of him in that movie about the Von Bulows.  Cold, calculating, refined, angular face, clipped speaking voice...he’s perfect.  And he does the whole seething, cold, contained anger thing very well, which of course is Thrawn’s center.  In fact, Klaus von Bulow in that movie is a lot like Thrawn in the books.  And it’s OK that he’s geting older.  Thrawn needs a lot of makeup since he’s not exactly human.  ;)

Something that has actually caused me to register after lurking around.  I’ll crush your dreams right now that there won’t be an Episode 7,8 and 9.  I’ve posted my thoughts on this in other places.  Its almost funny that the same people who criticize what is wrong with the prequels hope for another trilogy.  You guys are real masochists.  Besides the next step for Star Wars is television, its been pointed out a lot that Lucas will be developing a TV series for Star Wars.  No clue on time period though.

As for making The Thrawn trilogy the next movie trilogy, it wouldn’t happen.  Lucas would hold nothing sacred about the Expanded Universe novels and completely destroy and negate them as being used as partially “canonical” works in Star Wars.  Even as the newer novels attempt to justify the changes that occur after Return of the Jedi when Lucas has put them into doubt.  Besides the Thrawn Trilogy has so much in it you couldn’t fit them into 3 two hour movies like Lucas would want.  The only thing I can think of that Lucas used from the Expanded Universe was the name Coruscant.  And this was probably only done because he realized if he named the capital city-planet anything else there would be mobs that would string him up.

As for what’s wrong with the prequels up to this point.  Its certainly not the action.  Its more a dialogue problem and the change Lucas has gone through.  The romance dialogue in Episode 2 is so horrible and forced that its ridiculous.  Compare that with the romance in Empire and you’ll understand why its frustrating for fans.  There’s also the humor.  In Ep. 1, humor is Jar Jar stepping in a pile of shit.  Its forced and doesn’t really add to the movie.

Also, Episode 1 is a children’s movie about a trade embargo.  Real excitement there huh.

I’ve read other arguments about where Lucas has gone wrong by comparing the Trilogies.  You need only look at the Mos Eisley Cantina and the Coruscant Nightclub to see it.  The Cantina is an adult world when seen from a child’s perspective.  The nightclub is a child’s idea of what a place his sister is going to on the weekends.  Another issue is the Special editions of making Greedo shoot first.  And that is the ultimate argument to prove that Lucas has changed.

I do hold the most hope for Episode 3 though.  Of course it can be easily shot down and one key likely will.  Lucas has said he doesn’t want to take anything away from the original trilogy, which is why you never see the starlines for hyperspace in the prequels.  And it looks very likely that you will know immediately that Anakin is Darth Vader, perhaps seeing him without the mask.  That of course would take away all the shock value of “Luke, I am your father,” for anyone who watches the movies in order.  And believe it or not, there was a way this could have been accomplished if the prequels were done better, and possibly could still be accomplished but not as likely.
