More photos from Abu Ghraib

WAPO has some more photos. Some of them don’t seem like much, but some of them are not defensable, IMHO.

If you are put off my extreme images, may I suggest that you look at them anyway?  While you’re at it, you should seek out the Nick Berg video and watch that too, for some perspective.

Anyway...on to the images.

I’m OK with using dogs to scare the shit out of prisoners in interrogation.

This seems terrible, but it’s really just stress positioning.  Without knowing who that guy is or what happened to him before or after, this image by itself is not really that damning.

image

Manpile.  I can’t figure out what the fuck these soldiers were thinking.  In my opinion, this is not excusable.

OK, now we’re into unnecessary abuse.  First of all, that BETTER be mud and not some other brown material.  Secondly, if the guy was in his underwear t would be just as fucking bad for him to have to stand there for hours.  The nudity was just unnecessary.  And that BETTER be mud.

Houston, we have a problem.  Under what circumstances can anyone justify this?  Thise men are on the floor.  In the fetal position.  With bags on their heads.  What could possibly lead to punching them?

Abuse.  That’s what.  Whoever that soldier is in the photo needs prosecuting.

Again, in my opinion this is just another stress position interrogation technique, and I’m fine with it.  Without more info this photo by itself doesn’t tell me anything

Some bad shit went down at Abu Ghraib, but let’s not paint the entire country, and especially the entire military, with this brush.  The men that are there now are just as disgusted by this stuff as we are.  Some of them are bloggers.  Before any of you start criticizing the military, you need to put this in perspective: It was a limited group of very fucked up wierdos doing wierd shit, and they should be, and are being, punished for their actions.

I am not sure what the media is trying to achieve by continueing this trickle of pictures, but I will tell you what my reaction to these pictures was: nothing.  I have become totally desensitized - maybe because it seems to always be the same idiots hazing these thugs - and frankly find it sad.

This story is done and over, and I am not the only one that feels that way: Press can’t let abuse story go
