KKKramer? No. Michael Richards is a racist
I’ve seen all the reports and blog posts and so have you, I’m sure. You may have watched the “apology” on Letterman. No? Here:
Did he actually start to try to bring the Iraq war into this? Holy hell, that’s some gall.
I think Richards is at the least a minor-league racist and here’s why: no one uses the phrase “the blacks” unless they have some racism in their soul. Non-racists say “black people.” “Blacks” and “the blacks” is Archie Bunker code for “nigger.” “Afro-American” is just insulting. If you are going to deign to use the PC term, use the damn term.
That apology was riddled with code. I’ve never met a person in my life that used phrases like “the blacks” the way he did who wasn’t a racist at heart. Of course this is just ridiculous to even be having this discussion because his tirade at the comedy club was proof enough. No one goes off like that unless they harbor hate in their heart.
Look, even Jerry was offended:
Damn. I mean daaaamn! That was gazizza, dilsnoofuses.

I think the video is a bit misleading. Likely what happened was these guys were heckling and being rude. And he attempted to handle them. There are quite a few comedians out there of any race that can skirt the line of humor and racial insensitivity. That’s what he tried to do, but he crossed the line and screwed up. And proceeded to get pissed and just take it too far. No excuse for what he did but I don’t think its fully cut and dried. For all we know those guys started the racial stuff by calling him “white-boy” or something.

Uh, yeaaaaaaaaaaah, I don’t think repeatedly shouting “Nigger!” at someone is a good way to “handle” somebody, regardless of what they were doing. And the fact that he’s no trying to weasel out of it instead of just owning up and shutting up for awhile until it dies down says that it’s not really as misleading as all that.

Yes! But if you think you’re going to take any pictures of me at present you will be badly disappointed. I’m not ready for my close up yet! ;)

First I will say that I’ve enjoyed reading your blog thus far…
Just a few comments to add to this Michael Richard’s post…
It would be rare to find someone that does not harbor a little bit of hatred inside. Human-beings are imperfect. While I do not condone his actions at the comedy club, I by no means mentally link him with an organization of hatred.
What Mr. Richards preached was intolerance. The people in the crowd infuriated him. He in-turn flung inappropriate racial slurs at them. When the men in the crowd were angered what did they do? Respond with inappropriate racial slurs. It’s a cycle of ignorance.
As for the terms of what to call African Americans, I believe that is all colloquial. Other comedians skirt with the race issue constantly… some have even built a career around it. (Dave Chapelle) Its all a matter of tone.

Why not just stick to something neutral? Like Stupid Asshole Mother Fucker? Geez
