John Kerry is a disgrace to the very idea of a uniform

Kerry was never very good at hiding his distaste for those below him in social status.  Even before he married real money, he seemed to see the rest of the world as “less than.”

Well, he’s proven it yet again.

Kerry then told the students that if they were able to navigate the education system, they could get comfortable jobs - "If you don't, you get stuck in Iraq," he said to a mixture of laughter and gasps.

Here's what he actually said:

“You know, education, if you make the most of it, if you study hard and you do your homework, and you make an effort to be smart, uh, you, you can do well. If you don’t, you get stuck in Iraq.”

Pretty cut and dried. He flat-out said that if you don't get an education, you end up in the military Ergo - military equals stupid. Can't see it any other way. This was debunked a long time ago over at Moorewatch.

Kerry knew this statement was wrong as it was coming out of his mouth...note the minor stammering. He was thinking to himself "They're going to hate me for saying this, but my opinion is so important that I must rise above such petty objections." His ego could not allow him to shut his mouth.

Then, he turns around and tries to deny saying it, shifting blame to Rush Limbaugh and Bush?

If anyone thinks a veteran would criticize the more than 140,000 heroes serving in Iraq and not the president who got us stuck there, they're crazy. This is the classic G.O.P. playbook. I’m sick and tired of these despicable Republican attacks that always seem to come from those who never can be found to serve in war, but love to attack those who did.

I’m not going to be lectured by a stuffed suit White House mouthpiece standing behind a podium, or doughy Rush Limbaugh, who no doubt today will take a break from belittling Michael J. Fox’s Parkinson’s disease to start lying about me just as they have lied about Iraq. It disgusts me that these Republican hacks, who have never worn the uniform of our country lie and distort so blatantly and carelessly about those who have.

Well, unfortunately for the "good" Senator from Massachusetts, the event was videotaped for all to see.

I can't imagine how this must feel to military families, much less the soldiers themselves. I kind of hope some Marine somewhere just can't take it anymore and punches him straight in his big horse face.

*UPDATE*

I just hit the top tier lefty blogs. Almost all of them are ignoring it save for Josh Marshall, who is twisting himself around like a professional contortionist to spin this utterly ridiculous statement:
I take it Kerry's refering to our ignorance and that of our leaders in getting us bogged down in Iraq -- since there's no longer any such thing as draft deferments or, for that matter, a draft. But Kerry, I think, has the right response. Nothing to apologize for. What does he have to apologize for to the president and his party who've gotten thousands of Americans killed on their altar of their arrogance and lies.

Are the Republicans saying US soldiers and marines are responsible for President Bush's failed policies?

That's impressive spin. I almost want to admire that kind of blind devotion to the Democrats. By the way, when I said I hit the top tier lefty blogs? I included Andrew Sullivan, who endorsed John Kerry for president. Yeah, he hasn't had time to mention it. I guess it's not something over which he can get hysterical and pitch a fit.

*UPDATE* 2

So John Kerry won't be lectured by "a stuffed suit White House mouthpiece standing behind a podium, or doughy Rush Limbaugh," but will he be lectured by a man who spent 5 years in a VC prison while Kerry threw the medals he "earned" over a fence?
"Senator Kerry owes an apology to the many thousands of Americans serving in Iraq, who answered their country's call because they are patriots and not because of any deficiencies in their education," McCain said in a statement.

U.S. troops "deserve our respect and deepest gratitude for their service," he added and said the notion that only those with poor educations serve in the Iraq "is an insult to every soldier serving in combat."

Say what you will about John McCain, and I have, but the man served, and if Kerry thinks he can just shout McCain down, he's insane.

“These despicable Republican attacks”? Okay, who wants to bet that we see a right-wing conspiracy comment out of him at some point?

Kerry slammed Republicans for twisting his words.

That’s good because I really feel slammed.

I just checked out TotalFark - the TF Lefty Squad is in total spin mode, trying to spread the meme that Kerry was somehow mocking Bush with this “bungled joke.”

It’s mind-blowing how people will spin and distort just so their team doesn’t look stupid.

Here’s a Halloween Scare… He could’ve been our President right now.

How typical of an elitist aristocrat.

Guess I should update my blog on this, the poster boy of the left’s latest gaffe. Classic ‘tardedness from the horse’s mouth. (ironic term, huh?)

I almost died when I saw this, because he spoke these words at a gathering for a candidate that appears on a ballot for which I will be responsible, so I am precluded from commenting…

At least he didn’t tell them how to get out, the John Kerry way.

Someone has forgotten to tell Mr. Kerry the first rule of hole, when one finds himself in one, stop digging.
