Jerry Falwell dies
Jerry Falwell, 73, died today. By no means do I mean to celebrate his death, but I have to be honest - his influence on the culture will not be missed by me. His influence on politics is, at the price of a man’s life, thankfully over. I’ll never respect his politics, nor will I respect his need to denigrate and verbally assault others in order to elevate his “followers”...and himself. Still, he did his thing and it seems he built a hell of a family...50 years of marriage, kids that stayed to work with him...that’s something. And he inadvertently helped to solidify parody law in America, so we should backhandedly thank him for that.

You may not be willing to celebrate his death, but I feel no remorse in doing so. The man was slime, plain and simple. He was a hatemonger that spewed vile garbage and swayed so many gullible fools. You will not be missed, Jerry.
Now, I’m no Falwell fan, by any means…
But this sort of sentiment is can only be attributed to an embittered, unreasonable, rabidly hate-filled mind of the sort that is usually only found in suicide bombers and KKK members.
I always find it ironic and notably sad when someone rationalizes their use of this kind of hateful bile, by claiming that the target of it was a “hatemonger”.
Ah, irony.

Don’t tell that to the “true conservatives.” They’re happier about his death than DU, Kos, and Indymedia combined.

You know nothing about me, artmonkey. I am nothing like the small-minded fools who populate the ranks of the KKK, and less so than the psychotic fundamentalists that blow themselves up in pizza parlors. I don’t see a problem in angry word directed at a man who was very clearly a guy who built a fortune based on spouting hatred himself. The difference between Falwell and I is that he amassed a fortune by teaching people to hate many, many other people. I simply hold my own opinion.

You know what? Fuck that fat sack of shit. I’m glad he’s dead. That fucker did more harm than good. Fifty years of marriage and a shitload of grandchildren? Who the fuck cares? All that means is he found the one woman who could tolerate his fat ass going to town on top of her. BFD. Millions do the same every day. But millions also leave other people the fuck alone.
