I’m not what you think I am (Battlestar Galactica discussion)

WARNING: Battlestar discussion after the jump.  Spoilers ahead!

Spoilers in 3,

2,

1.

So...Just when I was about ready to show some faith in Gaius, he pulls that shit?  Every time he comes close to finding a spine and making good on the horrors he committed, he falls back into that spineless need for Six’s approval and this time his ego was the trigger.  That letter from Laura set his ego off and that was that...now he gave “peace” activists a nuclear weapon.

What the hell was Adama thinking, not tracking that device?

Anyway...Gaius betrayed humanity yet again because of his ego.  He is exactly what Six thinks he is.  Speaking of Six...I love her with a more natural-looking hair color.  That’s an attractive lady right there...I might sell out a few states for some sack time.  :)

So...cancer all gone go bye-bye, huh?  Cylon hybrid fetal cells are a cure for what else?  And what does this mean for Laura...is she now part Cylon?  Or, rather, can a potential political enemy accuse her of being part Cylon?

After all, she will have to run for office soon...remember that election coming up.  Will she remember seeing Gauis with a known Cylon agent?  We’ll see.  If you saw the big spoiler that went around this week...you know what I mean.  :)

This episode was basically housekeeping, something to move the story along to the next major arc, so not a lot to say about it...I think it was one of the weaker ones, especially in the script.  Everything was telegraphed before it happened, from the clearing of the guns being a problem right up to the nuke.  I loved everyones performances, and I know this is setup for the future, so...whatever.

Oh...last week I said I didn’t get why Lee was all emo-gothy-depressed.  Donna reminded me that we believe he’s a Cylon who hasn’t been activated...remember “ADAMA IS A CYLON?” Everyone thought it was the Old Man...it’s Lee.  Human-like Cylons are all under 35-ish...think about it: The Cylons disappeared 40 years earlier.  They took human DNA with them and it took some time to figure out how to “build” the human-like Cylons...they are all young because they grow naturally, like humans.  In fact...they ARE human, just genetically engineered humans.  Next time you’re making a list of suspects, discount anyone under 20 and over 40.

So...why the goth emo?  Because he was watching thousands of Cylons be destroyed not in battle, but simply being slaughtered.  Remember when Galactica Sharon was becoming active, how things would set her off, she got hyper-emotional?  I think that somewhere in the mind of a sleeper Cylon, they know.  It’s suppressed, but since they clearly experience psychological events as humans do...it could have a subconscious effect on Lee to have to watch thousands, maybe tens of thousands of Cylons brutally murdered.

Lee Adama is a Cylon.

I thought that Laura’s message was pretty bitchy, and was essentially a self-fulfilling prophecy. Telling someone that you don’t trust them and then laying out a long list of why you think they suck is pretty much asking them to give you a reason not to trust them. It doesn’t EXCUSE Gaius’ reaction to it, but if Laura could have been bothered to be a bit more, oh, I don’t know, diplomatic like she’s supposed to be good at, it might not have happened.
And Gaius may as well go rogue. The same moment he gets some balls and decides to stick up for humanity and do his best to save him is the exact moment that they have Laura remember seeing him with a Cylon agent so that he could be screwed over despite his new resolve. The writers have determined that absolutely no human character is ever going to actually get to be heroic and noble, they always, always have to be some manner of asshole. Thus, if Gaius wasn’t being an asshole, they would have had to lock him up.
I’m mad about Laura being cured. It’s one more person alive, never gonna get the TPK at this rate…

Yeah, I agree for a supposed teacher and a government official her diplomatic skills sucked ass. But I am not sure why you guys are so surprised Giaus is a scumbag. Did you not see the original series where he was a real evil bastard? Sure now, in the days were people make fun of those that want to see thing mostly in terms of black and white and not all shades of grey, Balthus is not down and out a scumbag, but in the end he is supposed to be evil.

What I was surpised to see was the Cylon sympathizers. The ones that blame the military-industrial complex of perpetrating the war against those peaceful Cylons. You know the same ones that just wiped out the civilizations of 12 human worlds. Can we draw the parallel to todays politics and those that think the terrorists can be bargained with? Not very lib or PC.

Harley: Easy - Lee was switched out while on some mission or another as an adult, and the new Lee doesn’t know he;s a Cylon yet!  Oh, as for the bomb, I don’t think he actually used it in the tests...I think Imaginary Six just talked him into getting it for...you know...just in case.

As for Gaius...I keep WANTING to believe that he’s going to turn good.  I see how Six wrapped him around her finger and I know he feels horrible for (some of) the things he’s done.  I keep thinking maybe, just maybe, this will be when he turns and finally says no more to assisting the Cylons.  But then he disappoints me again.

Just as he is supposed to, I guess.  :)

You guys make good points about Laura being bitchy in that note.  My only excuse for that is hey...she was 100% sure she’d be dead in a couple days.  Dead people walkin’ say some blunt things.  Her note was lacking in compassion, that;s for sure.  She could have handled that better.

I’ll be very, very curious to see how this memory comes into play.  Maybe she’ll blame it on the kamala root. :)

I dunno, me, if I were gonna be dead and it wasn’t gonna be in a “Run into the senate and cut off Byrd’s head while screaming ‘Take that, Palpatine!’” sort of way, while I might wanna be blunt and tell off the people who’d wronged me, if we were talking about the guy who was supposed to pick up where I left off and carry on my legacy, a bit more tact and kindness might have worked their way in there.

Wow, I finally saw the episode from Friday (courtesy of my VCR that I set to record it - yes, I did say “VCR").

I love it how both Adama and the Prez went after the anti-war/peace activist/anti-human brigade. Strangely enough, it gave me a warm feeling in my heart to see that on TV. I guarantee they will be causing havoc in the future.

Also, I agree Jimster - Six with natural hair is way better. That ultra-blonde bleached stuff makes her look hoe-ish.

somethign else, notice how teh “peacenick” was regurtating talking points of teh current real world anti-war movment....

Good point, Harley.  Also note they were not just supporting but actually part of the terrorism.

Hmm.  ;)
