IE7 driving me crazy
As you IE users know, this site hasn’t played well with Microsoft’s browser in a long time. I have tried everything, even asking the EE professionals to look at it, and no one can figure it out.
One day I have to rebuild every template from scratch. In the mean time, I was told that IE7 wasn’t loading the site at all. I finally figured out that I had the wrong doctype, and now IE7 loads like IE6: slow.
The main page shows no errors, but the comments page throws an error that I simply cannot track down. Seems to work for now, so to hell with it. One day soon I will simply re-design the entire fricking thing and get rid of this three-and-change-year-old bloated template of death. :)
Here’s something bloggers will be smart to take note of: IE7 blocks cookies from Sitemeter by default. If you count on your Sitemeter stats to drive revenue, you are not getting the full picture of your traffic. I totally get privacy blocking, I do a ton of it myself with Firefox, but Sitemeter is well-known and not exactly a risk...I wonder if that will remain blocked by default when IE7 is released to the general world.
As a browsing experience, IE7 is better than 6, for sure, but I still prefer Firefox tweaked to my exact wants and needs. IE7 will never be able to compete in that regard...Firefox can be pushed and molded into damn near anything you want.
