I hate politicians
Among the million other places from which I think the government should get out,you can count my DVD player.
However, under the proposed language, viewers would not be allowed to use software or devices to skip commericals or promotional announcements “that would otherwise be performed or displayed before, during or after the performance of the motion picture,” like the previews on a DVD.
You know what? If they insist on tellig me how I am going to watch the movies that I pay for (and I have about 450 DVDs, so I pay for a lot)then I will simply stop paying for them.
I hope the MPAA realizes they are killing themselves. If the movie business wanted to work with geeks we could find a way to protect their property and allow us to watch things the way we want, but no...instead they push. And they’re surprised when we push back.

Yeah, TiVo will flash “pop-up’ ads if you elect to skip the commercials.
That kind of shit has been going on since the invention of the Fast Forward button on remotes. Even BetaMax and video disc had it…
Now they’re going to make it illegal?
Where’s my gun?

I don’t know about wired, but I’ve recently learned (and longer suspected) that Slashdot.org is a liberal madhouse. I suspect the same of wired for what it’s worth. I don’t trust their judgment
My guess is that this thing is going to crash and burn.
And I can’t believe they’re trying to force people to watch the previews prior to a movie. what the fuck is that. I mean, you BUY or RENT the DVD, why should you be forced to watch the fucking previews?
Commercials on tv are another thing of course (though as Grey Coyote pointed I can’t see what they could do about that reasonably).
Why is the world full of stupid people? Shouldn’t evolution have purged them a million years ago?

How long before we have televisions that won’t let us change chanels during commercial breaks?
