Heroes - The Hard Part

I know...a day late!

When this show first aired, I didn’t like it.  I had just watched a whole bunch of The 4400 and it just seemed too copycattish.  I.  Was.  Wrong.  Around episode 4 we got completely hooked and now I argue that this is the best hour of dramatic TV on right now.  Yes, that includes The Shield.  The Shield is more exciting and more exhilarating, but ultimately it’s just Mackie versus the world and you can just about predict what will happen once you know the characters.

Heroes, though, now that show keeps you guessing and feels like you know what will happen.  It feels like the minds behind it have planned it out and know exactly how they want to tell us this story.

Anyway, just wanted to get that out.  Spoilers below!

Damn!  Hiro couldn’t do it.  He couldn’t kill Sylar.  Partly because he hesitated, but partly because Sylar is just that damned powerful.  I also love that Sylar’s mom is the one who planted the idea about being president.  And that he painted the boom in his mother’s blood after he killed her.

For a brief second, Sylar was sympathetic.  We almost felt like he gave a crap, and then he flipped that sympathy off like a switch just because Mohinder was dialing 911 on the other line.  Then there’s the matricide.

I was a little bit bored with the Claire/Peter/Nathan storyline, but I didn’t think that Mama Petrelli was part of the Linderman plot. That was a surprise.  Also, I think Nathan is a “shades of grey” character, but more dark grey than light grey.  His appetite for the office seems to be overwhelming his conscience.

My favorite moment was Hiro standing on the parapet yelling “New York!  We will save you!”

I’m like you, it was a few episodes in before I got into it.  Now, I’d be kicking myself if I wasn’t watching.

I was putting together furniture as I was watching this episode, so a few details may have escaped me, but ...

It seemed like Hiro’s attempt to kill Sylar was foiled by ... Hiro.  It seemed like he lost his grip on the frozen time just as he was about to swing his sword.  I have no idea about how his sword will get fixed now, or even if it will.  Love that about the show, it is keeping me guessing.

As for Mama Petrelli, I am not convinced that was actually her.  That may have been Eden (is that the name of the chick who can make you see things differently?).  But again, I am not sure.

I do love a show that keeps me guessing (without delving into the absolutely absurd).  I annoy my wife when we watch other shows because I always guess how they end up in like the first three minutes.

We’ve already got a copycat…

This dude decapitated his mom with a circular saw, then killed himself. When will we learn.  This cycle of power tool violence must end. I am calling today for a national ban on all sales of Power tools of more than 1 horse power.  How else can we be safe?  Why won’t anyone think of the children?

What is that little girls power, the one that shresih is looking after?

Her name is Molly and she has the ability “to find things”. And lest you think that is a petty power, think of the last time you misplaced your car keys. Or of all the socks and ballpoint pens you wouldn’t have had to waste money on replacing…

Or of money saved on search and rescue for a lost child.

Or of finding a certain highly sought individual that happens to have a $25 million bounty on his head (dead or alive).
