Hail to the winner, baby

Now, I’ve blogged about this almost a year ago, but it seems closer to reality now.

Sources said the studio is in negotiations with director-producer Sam Raimi (the “Spider-Man” movies) for a project titled “Freddy vs. Jason vs. Ash.” In the proposed sequel, Freddy (from the “A Nightmare on Elm Street” films) and Jason (from the “Friday the 13th” pics) would go up against Ash, the cynical anti-hero survivor of Raimi’s “Evil Dead” trilogy, which also includes “Army of Darkness.” Bruce Campbell played the character in the trilogy and would play him again if the deal were to close.

Cool!

Although Raimi would not direct

NoooOOoOoOoooooooo!  No no no no no.  Stupid.  Bad.  Not a good plan.  The opposite of good.  The anti-smart.  There are two men that undrstand Ash properly in Hollywood, and they are Bruce and Sam.  Period.  End of discussion.  Any studio exec that thinks Freddy or Jason is hard to get is ridiculous.  Just follow the basic rules laid out in their previous films and you’re good.  Listen to Englund.  Done.

Ash is not a movie monster, he’s an actual character, a person that people love for a reason. Bruce, baby, if this can somehow reach you through the ether or the network or by me just standing outside and shouting really loud...DO NOT AGREE TO THIS UNLESS YOU HAVE SCRIPT APPROVAL.  If they won’t or can’t hire Sam...it’s up to you not to fuck Ash up.

Hat tip to Michele for the link.

This sounds like a fun start to a trend of, similar to music’s “mashups” or “vs”, crazy match ups. Coming in 2007 is Freddy vs. Jason vs. Michael vs. Ash vs. Predator vs. Alien vs. Sly Stallone in Over the Top vs. the killer bunny from the Holy Grail vs. Leatherface vs. Chucky vs. Leprechaun vs. the guy in the Scream costume vs. Gargamel vs. Pinhead vs. the zombies in the Living Deads vs. Joan Rivers.

I dunno if I’d characterize Ash as being a fleshed-out character and hard to get at… he’s essentially a stereotype/parody of the rough-and-tumble antihero guys from classic black-and-white hero comic mags, like Conan. I liked Freddy vs. Jason, and from the way Freddy was written in that, I really think they’d be capable of capturing Ash’s “Good, bad, I’m the guy with the gun” flavor even without Sam Raimi. Hell, BadAsh essentially WAS Freddy as he was shown in Freddy vs. Jason, right down to the bad complexion.
I’d certainly feel a lot better about the project if Sam Raimi were in the driver’s seat, but I wouldn’t despair if that was the only thing that it didn’t have going for it.

You seem vaguely optimistic, or at least happy, about this movie.  Here, let me ruin that and everything else in the universe by showing you what other movies will be created alongside this film.

The Bewitched Movie

SON OF The Mask

Deuc Bigalow, European Gigallo

Fat Albert, The Movie

Superbabies: Baby Geniuses 2

Dungeons And Dragons:  The Sequal.  ISN’T THAT A GREAT NAME???

And, finally, Alone In The Dark.  This is being directed by Uwe, Boll, the same loamy sack of shit that did House Of The Dead, and is apparantly making at least two other video game-related films.  Uwe Boll is a bastard.

Plus, there’s the Alien Vs. Predator and Yu-Gi-Oh movies that are already out.  My point is, what the Hell is wrong with you people that you actualy felt any measure of optimism regarding upcoming films?  You goddamned maniacs!

On a whim, I put Right Thoughts into the IMDb search engine, and got This film.  NEVER FORGET, JIM!
