Google PC?

There are some folks out there who say Google is about to launch a low cost PC onto the market.

Rumors say it’s $200 or less, contains a Google-built OS, all Google apps, basic surfing and word processing functions and who knows what else.  If they include image abilities through Picasa...they might just have a solid little piece of gear that will replace the sub-$1000 PC for a lot of people.  I’d consider one as a 2nd-floor computer, and if they made a laptop that played WMV/MOV/DivX/DVD as well as did basic stuff...I feel like I’d be an idiot not to buy one.  Even if it has to stay connected to the network to function...great!  I’m like a drunk without booze when I’m not connected anyway.

Would you be tempted by a Google-built simple machine?

*UPDATE*

Hey, look, the LA Times blew another story.  What a shock.  It’s not gonna happen...Wal-Mart and Google say “Not guh do aht...wouldn’t be prudent at this juncture.”

For me? No.

For my mother, sister, grandfather, or anyone else who just uses PC’s to play solitaire and look up recipies? Absolutely.

Depends, how big a HD would it come with and still come cheap? HD space is one of my biggest desires, and I’d live without gaming if it meant a hyooj HD for cheap in a well-functioning but cheap machine.

HDD Memory comes at around a buck per Gigabyte and anything less than 80Gb should be sent back to grow some more…

Well, with a cheap 15 dollar USB eclosure you can add up to 500GB to any machine, so I’m not going to use HD space as a emasure of usefulness...I only have a 74GB (69 usable) drive as my main HD now.  Sure, it’s a Raptor...but still.  Smallish.

I have a terabyte and a half total though, between internal and externals.
