Global Warming strikes again!
Remember all that noise about how the polar ice cap is melting, and how we were all gonna die? The ice is back.
NEW evidence has cast doubt on claims that the world’s ice-caps are melting, it emerged last night.
Satellite data shows that concerns over the levels of sea ice may have been premature.
It was feared that the polar caps were vanishing because of the effects of global warming.
But figures from the respected US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration show that almost all the “lost” ice has come back.
Ice levels which had shrunk from 13million sq km in January 2007 to just four million in October, are almost back to their original levels.
Figures show that there is nearly a third more ice in Antarctica than is usual for the time of year.
Oops.
I do not see how it’s possible to deny that over the history of recorded weather, the earth’s average temperature has gone up. That is what people who believe in science call a “fact.” I agree and support the idea that the Earth’s temperature fluctuates, and that it is ever-so-slightly on the rise over the long term. I even support the idea that over the long term this could be deadly to most living creatures.
What I do not believe is the idea that we can reverse it through a number of economy-crippling, mostly-political empty gestures. The current King of the Environment, Al Gore, is making millions off scaring the shit out of people. He was Mr. “The Ice Caps! Look at this polar bear!” ever since that docu-farce of his came out.

That specific image has been trumpeted far and wide as proof positive of the melting of the ice caps and man’s destruction of the planet. More importantly it is used to raise millions and millions of dollars for “climate change” advocates like Gore. Perhaps most importantly is that this image, and many others like it, are used to try to pass legislation that will - and has - crippled the economy of any nation that tries to follow the benchmark for these kinds of things, the Kyoto Protocols.
But...it’s a lie. Watch this, starting around 1:20.
That is Michael Moore-level lying right there. The photo was taken near the shore, in summer, by a student on a field trip.
Let me be clear. I think that we should reduce pollution and carbon creation wherever possible, simply because it’s good stewardship. We’re in charge of this planet for the time being, and it only makes good sense to be careful with it. What I don’t believe in, and will actively fight against, is this climate change hysteria that grips the Gores of the world, influencing and directing political action to stop something that may well be unstoppable. And if we’re being true devotees of science, may not even exist.
The actual science is still out. The political science, however, is very much in. Should be interesting to see how the Gores of the climate change movement spin this ice cap news. I assume it will be proof of global warming. Everything is proof of global warming. Too cold? Global warming. Ice caps melted? Global warming. Ice caps return? Global warming. Hurricanes, tsunamis and tornadoes at record highs? Global warming, global warming and of course, global warming. Hurricanes, tsunamis and tornadoes at record lows? Global warming, global warming and of course, global warming.
You know, when Bush makes policy first, then forces agencies to fit the science to his policy, he’s wrong. When it comes to climate change, though, that concept goes right out the window. Policy first, science and data second. Now watch as I turn this rant toward the 2008 elections:
The two people likely to be running against each other for President are both on the same page when it comes to this crap. McCain’s a global warming, “greenhouse gas is the cause” believer. So is Obama. Just shut up and pay your taxes, subject. The Kings have decreed what the science shall be.
Why do we allow this shit? Why? Why are we saddled with a nanny-state-loving empty shell posing as a semi-secular Jesus, and a dottering, angry old bastard with no regard for science, free speech or conservative principles? Why is this our choice, again? Why am I being asked, once again, to choose between a giant douche and a turd sandwich?
Let’s get out and vote!
Let’s make our voices heard.
We’ve been given the right to choose,
between a douche and a turd.
It’s democracy in action!
Put your freedom to the test.
A big fat turd or a stupid douche,
which do you like best?
I really need to buy more ammunition.
*UPDATE*
Whoops! Cassy Fiano at Wizbang did this same story today with the same headline. Sorry, Cassy!

I really don’t know what all the fuss is about. So its getting a little warmer, big deal, I’ll turn up my AC.

Unsurprising. They seem to be quite chummy. I wouldn’t doubt that Mikey helped Gore along quite a bit in his “documentary”, since it bears such a similarity to Mikey’s own, pun not intended.

Its classic liberal thinking: Make an opinion, then go out and find things that appear to support your idea. Its like that graph in “Inconvinient Truth” that shows the increase in CO2 and the increase in Tempreture. Out of context, it seems to prove that an increase in CO2 causes this increase in Tempreture. The reality is that its just the opposite. Just because you show a graph of 2 things happening at the same time does not mean they are even related, much less the cause of one or another. Causation is not the same as correlation.
And yes, we need more ammo.

It’s all about money. Global warming puts a lot of grant money in the hands of scientists and academics, there’s the carbon offset scam, and there’s a shit load of money to be made in marketing “green” products when your product is the same peice of shit everyone else makes.
I would say that the problem isn’t necessarily the science that’s being done, it’s the fact that people who should know better have made up their minds about it and dismiss any evidence to the contrary. The founding principle of the scientific method is to always be open to being wrong and to ALWAYS check your premises. Something most people involved in this whole scam have left behind.
Hell, Scientists can’t even definitively say how the placebo effect works, among other things. It’s all just theory and once a scientist hitches his horse to one wagon with no intention of carrying on further debate he ceases to be a true scientist.
reminds me of an Arthur C Clarke quote: “When a distinguished but elderly scientist states that something is possible he is almost certainly right. When he states that something is impossible he is almost certainly wrong.”

And another amusing list of comments for the YouTube video.

Just because you show a graph of 2 things happening at the same time does not mean they are even related
Especially when - once the image is brought into close-up, this becomes clear - the alleged “effect” precedes the accused “cause” by several decades (or even centuries, since that scale is usually shown as being calibrated in 10,000 or 100,000-year increments).
The reality is that the temperature changes first, and then the CO2 level changes.
But even record freezes are allegedly caused by global warming, since as the ocean gets warmer, the icecaps melt, the oceans get diluted, and the oceanic currents stop transferring warmth as effectively, and you get helicopters freezing in mid-air. (What, didn’t you see “Day After Tomorrow”?)
It all still reminds me of a song I learned long ago…
“The sun so hot, I froze to death.
Suzannah, don’t you cry...”
Something about “coming from Alabama”, or something…

I think there’s more difference in the giant douche and a turd sandwich than between mccain and obama. Truth would be 2 turd sandwiches, one with just a little more corn.
