Gladiators

Is anyone else watching the new American Gladiators?  I’d bother making a post about it, but Joel at Hijinks Ensue already said most of my words for me, so just read his.  Comic’s pretty funny too.

The only thing I have to add is HOLY TIME WARP BATMAN. It’s like I woke up and the 80s exploded in my face.  From the cheesy scripted lines to the overdose of Hulk-a-mania to the really, really, really cheesy Gladiators, I feel like it’s parachute pants, ketchup-as-a-vegetable, Star Wars Defense Initiative, pro-wrestling’s-first-heyday Madonna-as-a-whore time all over again.

It’s kind of terrible, but we’re glued to it.

I’ve not seen the new one yet---may have to check it out.  But it did remind of this clip I saw recently--I have no idea which season it’s from---but it’s funny....

(If I saw it here and it’s a repost---then my apologies.)

Duuuude---it’s Malibu

I love the new American Gladiator, and I hope it runs for a long time. :)

I remember when the original American Gladiators ended.
I’m not sure what happened to most of the ‘roid bags
from that incarnation, but it forced at least two of the Gladiatrix babes into strip-club “feature” tours.

I was there at the Box-Car in Phillipsburg, NJ the night “Diamond” hit the stage.

I remember being quite disappointed that she didn’t bring the giant Q-tip. It would have made her stage show so much more entertaining.

Question… aside from his occasional reappearances in the ring to remind people he’s still alive, has Hogan made a single good career decision in the last 20 years?
First Hulk Hogan energy drinks, then the Hulk-o-matic grill (or whatever that blatant Foreman ripoff is called) and now the new AG?

Oh, how the pythons have fallen, Brother!

The worst part of the show is the way they cut to commercials. They do it right after the ref calls “Gladiator Ready” as a corny bit to create tension.

Why is it that none of these network/Hollywood people can let their shows create the drama and feel the need to use the cheesiest gimmicks that only work on the most brain dead among us?

(Seeing some real injuries was kinda cool though)
