Get well Mrs. Edwards
Elizabeth Edwards Has Breast Cancer
Elizabeth Edwards, wife of former Democratic vice presidential candidate John Edwards, was diagnosed with breast cancer the day her husband and Sen. John Kerry conceded the presidential race.
Spokesman David Ginsberg said Mrs. Edwards, 55, discovered a lump in her right breast while on a campaign trip last week. Her family doctor told her Friday that it appeared to be cancerous and advised her to see a specialist when she could.
...
He said the cancer was diagnosed as invasive ductal cancer. That is the most common type of breast cancer, and can spread from the milk ducts to other parts of the breast or beyond.
More tests were being done to determine how far the cancer has advanced and how to treat it, he said.
I strongly urge my fellow bloggers not to get distasteful with this. Schadenfraude is all well and good when it comes to the election, but don’t cross the line. That could be your wife or your mother or your daughter.

Breast cancer is SERIOUS I have a close freind with a BEAUTIFUL wife and she had to have both breasts removed. I could not imagine the mental process to get through something like that. I pray for Mrs. Edwards and Hopefully they caught it soon enough. Her husband and her seem to have alot of energy, I’m shure they will focus on bringing awareness to this horrible disease.

johnny: good call. I suspect they will be very visible and help raise awareness.
In all seriousness, ladies...you know what you have to do. Do the self checks. See the doctor. Be careful.
jody: I was actually thinking of you when I saw the story, how truly crappy it would be if someone started taking joy in what happened to your mom. I just wanted to warn anyone who was going to crack jokes at Mrs. Edwards expense to chill.

“No jokes”? I had a great one all set and ready to go, too.
Y’see, there’s this priest, a rabbi, and a minister that walk into a bar. The bartender looks at the three of them, and demands, “What is this - a joke?”
(Ba-dum-bump)
I got another: A horse walks into a bar. The bartender says, “Hey, pal, why the long face?”
(Ba-dum-bump)
Thank you, thank you, I’ll be here all week, and don’t forget your waitresses…

Oh, you mean no jokes about Mrs. Edwards. Well, hell, anyone with any class at all would know that.

Yes, there was a DU thread celebrating Reagan’s death with a bottle of wine. The writer mentioned that he’d been waiting for the moment for 20 years, or some such nonsense. I was mortified.
I’m glad that xenophobic John Edwards lost. I hope he loses if he runs in 2008. I also hope he and his wife live to a ripe, happy old age. The concepts aren’t incompatible.

i would imagine that most people here will not say anything low in a situation like this but i would bet anything that if Laura Bush was the one with breast cancer, all the liberal web sites would be praying for her to die so that George would crumble.....after lurking around DU for the last few days and seing all the hate they spew there i have no doubts what they would be saying

It’s totally natural for people to be pleased when a political opponent dies, especially if you feel agreived at something they’ve done. Reagan’s opponents can be pleased at his death, just like Arafat’s opponents can pray for his death (this very blog). As an English person, I know I’ll be pleased when Thatcher finally does the decent thing. And I can only imagine the orgy of pleasure in the States when Fidel Castro kicks the bucket. So that’s normal. I applaud your stance towards Edwards’s wife, because all she has done is be someone’s wife, but being pleased about a true opponent no longer being around is nothing to be ashamed of.

Jo-jo, there’s one other…
Two guys walk into a bar.
You’d think the second one would have ducked.
(Ba-dum-bump)

Totally agreed. I don’t think any of my regular reads would stoop to that level. If they do, they’re in for a chop-busting.
I’ll leave that type of hatred for the DU assholes that popped open bottles of wine when Reagan died.
