Games stuff - Test Drive Unlimited and Dead Rising

Yuck.  Both of them.  Let me explain:

Test Drive Unlimited was just...boring.  It was GTA without any fun stuff.  I sent it back to Gamefly in 24 hours.

Now, Dead Rising.  I wanted so badly to love the game.  There’s a lot to love.  I liked the story.  I didn’t mind the animation.  I liked the missions.  I liked the photography aspect.  I liked almost everything about it.  Except.

Except the horrible control system.  It’s awkward.  Very, very awkward.  It’s the opposite of fluid.  It gets in the way.  I couldn’t take it after awhile.  I sent it back after a week of trying to love it.  I still think about it though, and I might rent it again after I get my fill of Gears (and Splinter Cell, and Transformers and Darkness and Overlord, and...).

Anyone else have trouble with it?

Dead Rising is one of my favorite 360 games. I’m surprised you didn’t complain about the save system, which is what most people tend to rag on. Personally, I thought the game’s biggest flaw was the incompetent survivor AI. It makes getting the Saint achievement a bitch.

I wanted it to be a game I loved...I truly did.  I like so much about it, I just couldn’t get over the control system.  Firing seemed like a three-step, awkward process, during which you can’t move.  Dealing with those idiots in the truck is almost too much with that sort of control system.  It ended up just pissing me off.

As for the save system - man, I am SO used to getting screwed by tactical squad shooters by now that I didn’t even realize it was annoying.  :)

I loved Dead Rising.  Made it through the whole story after a few weeks with several heavy play days on weekends.

Fun to go back now and then and goof around.  The survivor mode after winning is seriously hard.

As for Test drive.. right there with you.  Barely played it and felt the same way.. what was the point?

Forza 2 is the top racing game right imho.  It was the first (and only) game I purchased through GF.  Have you tried Call of Juarez yet?

your dislike for dead rising makes me very disappointed in you.

you think about that, young man.

BTW, since you liked Crackdown, you might want to give Just Cause a try for a large, open-ended game.  It starts out a tad slow but can be wicked fun.  It’s friggin huge though.  I’ve put hours into it and am barely maybe 1/2 way done.

Lots of fun doing things like taking planes or helicopters to get around fast and going super high up, then jumping… the infinitely re-usable parachute rocks.  It’s actually really impressive to see how the engine represents your extremely distant view when you’re way up in the air free-falling or parachuting down.  I love the little accented jokes they toss in too.. his constant “Jes!” for yes can be funny, and whenever you do a cool parachute maneuver you get comments like “I can’t believe I get paid for this.”

The one thing that I would think would turn off some people is that it can be a tad slow at times.  Whereas something like Crackdown was always super busy, you sometimes have to get around in Just Cause or need to finish up a quest or something that’ll take a little time to do.
