Fred Thompson drops out

Damn it all to hell, Fred dropped out.  He was the only person on either side I was going to vote for.  Now I am looking at who I have to vote against.  The very idea of John McCain as the republican nominee makes my brain hurt.  I may end up voting for a Masshole country club socialist Republican just because I so dislike McCain as a politician.  or I may not vote at all, because I am infinitely disgusted by virtually every...no, not virtually.  I am disgusted by them all, on both sides.

Damn you, Fred.  You should have fought harder for this.  We needed you...and all you did was split enough people off so that Huckabee and McCain got traction. Then you abandoned us.  You’re the Ross Perot of the 2008 election.  Thanks for that.

I am truly saddened.  I believe I will now go to my voting booth--err...cupboard-- and vote for Jack Daniels.

Not a bad idea really.

The almost joy some people have with him deciding to drop out is a bit disheartening too.  I think what Republicans are going to learn is that a candidate who only appeals to the christian right, or candidates that are more likable to democrats and idependents is not the way to win the whitehouse.

Yeah he was looking like the guy I was going to vote for to.

Now I’ve got nothing.

Also, I’m pretty sure I’m not in Germany.

Yeah… over at The Rants we’re a little more sad than the rest. We even had a banner for his website at the top of the website.

What’s up, Fred? Seriously dude…

We need someone who will tell us the truth, and stand for what they truly believe in, not what their handlers tell them to.  Fred seemed that guy, and I don’t think he was electable because of it. For some reason, people just want to be lied to.

For some reason, people just want to be lied to.

I don’t really see that. Sure, people expect to be lied to, but I don’t think anyone wants to be. Fred’s problem is that he didn’t show anyone that he really wanted it. Yeah, I know “Anyone who is capable of getting themselves made President should on no account be allowed to do the job.” But people want a leader to have, in addition to a cool head, a genuine passion for doing the job. Like it’s their calling. Rudy has it. Romney definently has it. McCain… well, Family Guygot it just right. Fred seemed like he was doing it because everyone around him thought it would be a great idea, but he was pretty ambivalent to it.

Maybe I’m wrong and today was the hardest day of his life. Never saw anything to make me think otherwise though.

Rudy or Rommey, no MCain, no Huckelberry. Would have been really nice to be able to vote for someone, for a change.

Christian#10  Posted by Christian United States on 01/23 at 11:55 AM -

Romney definently has it.

Thats not what I get from Romney at all. He seems way to slick, way to prepared, very much like Bill Clinton.  I don’t get that he is passionate for the job, just very prepared to run for the job.

And I do believe most people want to be told what they want to hear, not what they need to be told. If you do that, that’s lying to me.

I’m still not sure who I am going to vote for either. This sucks.

I do have a joke for ya’ll though…

Chelsea Clinton is talking to a soldier in Afghanistan and asks him if there is anything he fears.

He states that there are 3 things that he fears the most.

1. Osama
2. Obama
and 3. Yo’ Momma

:-)

Oh get over it already. I like Fred. From an ideological standpoint, I liked him the best. From an executive standpoint (the President actually has to do shit once elected, remember?) he was a complete and utter fuck-up. His extended cock-tease on announcing his candidacy followed by the Keystone Kops Kampaign management doomed him from the start. He. Was. Never. Going. To. Win. Or even get close. He’s not the Ross Perot candidate - Ross Perot stuck in there and drew enough votes to give us William Jefferson Clinton. He’s the Snakes on a Plane candidate - tons of Internet hype, not much showing at the box office.

I also want to slap the shit out of everyone who says Romney’s too slick. What do you want? A mumbling tongue-twisted doofus who hides from the media and the American people when things get rough? Ummm… we already have one of those. Not working out quite that well on the PR front is he?  Am I the only one here that remembered how Reagan could go out there and charm the ever-loving shit out of everyone and make things happen? How JFK got the nation off its ass and sent us to the moon? I think that everyone is still too shell-shocked because Clinton had the same gift and used it to spin his way out of innumerable scandals. But being a polished communicator is a good thing.

No way, man. Ron Paul is the Snakes on a Plane candidate.

Looks like it’s gonna be McCain or Romney. At least Romney has a history of fiscal success in the private sector. That’s something, seeing as how he’s otherwise a wishy-washy, pandering twat. McCain has been behind too much legislation that I cannot agree with, and it’s odd seeing him go from damn near bolting the party as a moderate to sucking on Bush’s cornhole.

The funny thing will be to see it boil down to Romney vs Hillary or Obama. The South will take a look at that and secede all over again.

The South will take a look at that and secede all over again.

Which will be less painful than this election and all the fucking pontificating and prevaricating involved in it.

I don’t know… could you imagine a campaign with Romney vs. Edwards? The battle of the hair!

#16  Posted by Noblebrown Germany on 01/24 at 01:26 AM -

Ooh, that’s a good one, but Romney would win. Edwards has the expensive haircuts, but Romney’s hair is indestructible.

#17  Posted by Janna United States on 01/24 at 03:13 PM -

Romney’s hair reminds me of Jimmy Johnson’s hair. Even when he was doused with a bucket of Gatorade, I swear his hair was still perfect. Scary.

I think part of Fred’s problem was exactly what a lot of people have been wanting.  All the time there’s bitching about they way candidates campaign, and how they are playing the media game and how much we hate it.  And Thompson comes along and pretty much refuses to go into that game.  But then everyone seems to get all ticked off at his doing exactly what we wish someone would have done.

Exactly, People bitch about the way candidates campaign, not that they are campaigning at all. Lack of a campaign is not a viable alternative. I want someone that gives us a BETTER campaign, not just refraining from the ugly stuff that the others are doing.

I couldn’t disagree more. It’s not that he “campaigned differently.” It’s that he campaigned like shit. He couldn’t even get 500 signatures to get on the ballot in Delaware even though some guy was practically beating down his door to do it for him. His entire campaign was a disorganized joke up until December. Not only that, most of his public speeches during the first few months were outright snoozers.

Yes, it’s important to have a candidate who’s solid on the issues, but it’s important to have a President with executive ability. Fred demonstrated absolutely none of that in his run. It’s not the unconventional style that did him in. He had the message. He couldn’t surround himself with the right people and get them marching in the right direction to get himself elected. Great YouTube videos just don’t cut it by themselves.

Fred is out because 80% of the American people are either stupid or too self absorbed to listen to 30 second answers to questions instead of 6 sec sound bytes. Fred was the only candidate to truly think out his positions and lay them out in detail (as opposed to “I’m for Change” like the rest of them)Ask anyone and they’ll say they don’t want professional politicians running this country but then they get duped by the same slick willies they don’t like.
Thompson didn’t run for President because he WANTED to be President but because he thought he could fix things. He ran because he thought the American people were adults and wanted someone serious and thoughtful to give them specific ideas and honest answers. Well they don’t. The American voter WANTS to be lied to, loves the fact that not a single person elected to federal office has any principles and has no problem being taxed into oblivion so that these congress people can pass laws that ensure that they stay in power.
I think I will vote for Obama. That is what the Republican party deserves. He can appoint judges that make sure abortion stays legal and gay rights out weigh heterosexual rights. The right wing stayed home and allowed the Socialists to have congress and I think now I will help give them the White House too. Maybe 8 years of Jimmy Carter the 2nd will teach them that when it comes to voting they need to put America before their religion. Or better yet, I’m for Ron (Isolationism first) Paul!
I am very sad for the people of this country. Most let the MSM tell them what to think and make no effort to inform themselves about their government. I guess “We The People” is now “We The Lifetime Congressmen” and very few of us (those here are us for the most part) care enough to do anything about it. I for one can’t wait for the 16% mortgages and $7 a gallon for gas.

Or he could be out because he dropped the fuck out?
