Food Network is slowly removing everyone that can cook

First Mario Batali, now Emeril.

Emeril Lagasse is out at the Food Network. Contract negotiations between Emeril and parent corporation Scripps have broken down. Lagasse is leaving the Food Network as a result and the last day of production for Emeril Live will be on December 11.

Great.  More room for Rachel Ray and Nigella Lawson and that chick that cooks with all canned goods, so look for more shows aimed at the “Open a can and warm it up” home chefs of the world.  If they could just kill off Flay and Alton, it could be like 24 hours of Easy Mac with Stewed Tomatoes and Hormel Chili Salad.

I mean, say what you will about Emeril’s ridiculous show, but the man’s food is to die for.  Batali is maybe the best working chef in America, and one of the most knowledgeable as well.  Alton Brown doesn’t count in the knowledge area, as he’ll tell you, he’s not a chef.  Anyway, that’s two really really great cooks down.  No one has seen Marimoto on the network in who knows how long.  If we can just kill Flay, Alton and Giada’s careers, we can really sell some products to harried housewives and single fathers who don’t have five minutes to cook, but fancy themselves foodies.  Because that’s apparently the demo the network is moving toward…

*UPDATE*

Apparently they are only canceling his live show with the stupid band.

That’s really too bad---it really sucks actually.  Emeril’s food is great---the only problem I had with his shows is that many times his ingredients are impossible to find locally where I live.  Not his fault though---mine for living in a place that doesn’t have a market for it.

I love Good Eats.  I love the why’s and how’s of cooking, and many times when I am looking for recipes I start with Alton’s first.

Hearing this reminds me of TechTV.  When they went to G4 I completely stopped watching.

Well, they can make Food2 network.

Thing is, you want to make an instructional cooking show that anyone can do, and ingredients that anyone can find, and are economical.  Remember, there are plenty of morons out there who will cut their own finger off dicing something, so canned would be good for them…

Essence of Emeril?  Sorry, Emmy, I don’t want to put your essence in my mouth.  And all that Bam crap gets boring.

Alton Brown is a teacher, which is really funny since he is a proclaimed high school near-dropout and a completely disinterested student.  The fact is that I think most science teachers should watch AB and take his teaching methods to heart.  He knows how to entertain AND teach, like Bill Nye.

The problem with most of the food network stuff is that they seem to require either really, really strange ingredients (Mario) or really weird equipment (Emeril).  I liked The Naked Chef because he used normal ingredients and used normal equipment.  I made some of his stuff myself.  If this is the kind of thing you are complaining about, then I will just have to say, “Count me in!” on the new order.

did you get muse or what?

Yep.  Used it today on the treadmill.  I’m really impressed with Black Hole, but I like the first one too.  Thanks!

I can’t stand Giada, and her fake accent makes me want to punch a kitten.
