Day by Day death?
Anyone around here read Day by Day? Is the Sunday cartoon fantasy or a dream sequence or something? If you don’t read Day by Day, one of the main characters was in that car.
I feel like I must be missing something...or Chris is taking a huge, bold step with the comic.

I agree. My first child was just born, and all through the pregnancy, I had nightmares like this strip. Pretty unchracteristic of Day by Day to have such intense drama.

Or… was one of the main characters in the car??? Maybe the car was stolen, but the cell phone was left in it.

You know, I kinda gotta wonder if this is Chris’ commentary on “green friendly” cars as just not being as safe in that type of collision as a much-reviled SUV. I mean, that sucker did just COME APART when the semi hit it…

Update: The Monday cartoon solves it. The car was stolen (with Jan’s cell phone in it).
However, Jan may not be pregnant after all…

That… was pretty lame. Not only was the car accident just a “gotcha”, but the status quo is being maintained.
It’s not a comic-ruining something, but it was pretty stupid.

good comic, bad “gotcha” moment.

Loved the license plates, though…
“KRY 4EVR”

He’s gone the slightly dramatic route before, but always kept it interspersed with humor.
He’d have to be a complete writing wizard to pull this off. This is one of those things that could completely break a comic either way. If it’s just some lame gag that will be over in a strip or two, it would have been almost cruel to make people think that for something so trivial.
But to have Damon’s pregnant girlfriend die in a horrible car accident… ... it’d be hard to think of ever really laughing at the strip again.
