Coffee pod of the day - Baronet Dark Kenya AA

Early this morning, I made a cup of the Estate Costa Rican...that’s just great coffee.  However, since I have already discussed it, I just made another cup, this time it’s Baronet Dark Kenya AA.

Pods: 10 grams, stuffed full.  I would not be surprised to find some pods that weighed in at 10.5 grams.  Well constructed, easily wetted, good extraction.  They fit VERY well in my Simplehuman A40’s small (green) pod holder.

Taste: The Baronet website describes it as “A dark roasted Kenya with a clean bright flavor and solid body.” I’m not sure I’d call it a “clean” flavor.  More like a roasty-yet-bright flavor.  I would not call it bold, more like a middle-of-the-road dark-ish flavor.  If I had to pick a flavor that hides behind the dark-ish-ness (ocity), I’d say bittersweet chocolate, which is common to a lot of Kenyans as far as I can tell.  It really comes out with cream and sugar.

They are also available in a 12 gram megapod, which would make one awesome cup of coffee at the 8 oz. setting in the Simplehuman A40.  In fact, I am ordering some of those as soon as I post this.  I like my coffee strong!

My conclusion: A good but not great coffee.  It would go over well with guests as an easy-to-drink yet still gourmet coffee, since you never want to serve people extremely strong or flavorful coffees unless you know they like that kind of thing.  For a dark Kenyan, this is smooth.
