Carol Burnett has lost her sense of humor

Well here’s something I never in a million years thought I would say:  To hell with Carol Burnett.

Comedian Carol Burnett sued 20th Century Fox Thursday over a portrayal of one of her signature characters on an episode of “Family Guy.”

Burnett’s copyright infringement lawsuit, which is seeking more than $2 million in damages, states the show’s creators did not have her consent to include her cleaning woman character—known as the Charwoman—in an April 2006 episode.

In the episode, the Charwoman is the maid in a pornography shop. The segment also incorporated an “altered version” of Burnett’s theme music, and the characters in the show perform Burnett’s signature ear tug, her suit states.

In addition to her copyright infringement claim, Burnett, 73, alleges 20th Century Fox violated her publicity rights.

Seems like old age has made her forget what satire and comedy are all about.  That sucks...I’ve always thought of her as pure comic genius, with delivery and physical comedy skills second to none, but now for the rest of my life I will think of her as the bitchy old bag who sued someone over a parody.

Way to tarnish a legacy, Carol.

I’m conflicted. On the one hand, how humorless and lame.

On the other… lord Family Guy sucks.

Didn’t she lampoon pretty much everything and everybody during her hayday?

How sad.

Unless she has a current contract with Fox regarding these rights, she’ll probably find that Satire is one of the most thoroughly protected rights covered by the First Amendment.

But, as it’s been noted, Family Guy sucks rhino ass with diarrhea.

that’s what happens when your show is written by manatees.

According to Burnett, 73, she was approached by Fox in mid-2005 for permission to use the theme song from “The Carol Burnett Show” in a “Family Guy” episode. She declined the request. It was then, Burnett alleges in a lawsuit filed yesterday in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles, that she became a target of the raunchy Fox show. A copy of Burnett’s complaint can be found below. Burnett claims that after she refused to license her music, Fox caused a “Family Guy” episode to “be rewritten to disparage Ms. Burnett using Ms. Burnett’s signature ear tug.”

Even if Fox was guilty of what she accuses, its still only comedy on a shitty show.

Oh, I wouldn’t say that Family Guy sucks. It’s definitely past it’s prime. The show is hit and miss now, but sometimes it’s pretty damned funny. I thought the Poltergeist episode was great, but the side jokes are getting really damn tired. It’s a lot funnier when the comedy comes out of the characters themselves (side joke or not) rather than some random dude in a side gag, especially when MacFarlane drags it way the hell out to fill time.

And fuck Carol Burnett for this crapola. I seriously doubt she’ll have anything close to a legal leg to stand on in this case.
