Bush screwed up, plain and simple

My good but crazy and misguided friend Sean ( :P ) called this a flip-flop:

“We have a clear vision on how to win the war on terror and bring peace to the world.”
-- George W. Bush
July 30th 2004.
“I don?t think you can win [the war on terror]. But I think you can create conditions so that the those who use terror as a tool are less acceptable in parts of the world.”
-- George W. Bush
Aug. 29th, 2004.

While I do not agree it’s a flip-flop, Sean was concerned that no Republicans would take Dubya to task over it.

I will.

It was a dumbfuck thing to say out loud. Terrorism only works when the enemy senses weakness. You should never, ever, no matter how much pressure you feel from the media, admit a weakness when it comes to something like this. Every word spoken in public should be about confidently destroying bases of terror.

The entire point of terrorism is psychological. So psych tactics will clearly work on people that put so much faith in words and symbols. Bush was an idiot for giving voice to any shred of doubt, and so is everyone else that blabs about how it can’t be done. God forbid everyone should shut the fuck up for 5 minutes and see if a little punk’d action couldn’t scare even a *few* terrorists into giving up the career choice.

Aid & comfort...aid & comfort.

I’d argue that this is as big a “flip flop” as Kerry has ever made on the subject.

I guess the more rabid of the WoT hawks will now start calling Bush “soft on terrorism” and “for the terrorists”. :p

I wouldn’t call it a flip flop as much as it is a statement of reality versus a campaign slogan/soundbite/advertisement.
I would argue that the more relevant flip-flip is more accurately attributed to Cheney than Bush, in reference to the recent SEC/Halliburton settlement. After all that talk about “corporate accountability” and ‘integrity’, Cheney himself committed similar fraud while CEO for Halliburton (and was aware of it), according to current CEO of Halliburton, David Lesar.
The only good news I see out of this is that hopefully the “Kerry is a flip-flop/waffler” jokes will finally end. They were never funny.
