BFG stands for…no, if you have to ask, skip this post.  :)

I’ve been playing F.E.A.R. (great fun, BTW...it’s nice to shoot at an enemy that uses cover and can take a hit and get back up) and lamenting my poor old AGP GeForce 5900.  Everything is turned down or off.  The game looks like Quake 3 at these settings.  I decided to play anyway...at 800 x 600 for frig’s sake, because it was that or nothing at all.  I was screwed because paying for a 6800 isn’t worth it (about $200-$225 for a good one), and I can’t have a 7800 because I don’t have PCI-Express.  Upgrading would mean a new motherboard AND processor, and there isn’t any damn thing WRONG with this one save for the fact that it doesn’t have PCI-Express.

Rotten hardware-making bastards.  They do this to us just to squeeze more money and force an upgrade path.  Luckily...someone has heard our cry.  BFG to the rescue!

NVIDIA and its partners have launched the GeForce 7800 GS AGP for those die-hard AGP users who don’t have the funds to complete a full system upgrade to PCI-Express. We’ve teamed up with BFG Technologies, NVIDIA’s leading partner in North America, to bring you a launch day product review.

If you check out the tests they did with this card, running F.E.A.R, it’s amazing compared to the garbage on my screen.

BFG Technologies.  I love that company.  I swear I will never buy another non-BFG card again.  No, this isn’t the best 7800 GPU out...the GT is, and this one is just a GC.  Big frigging deal.  I’m just glad I can, if I could afford it, buy a “next-gen” card for this not-very-old computer.  For $350, I get another year or more out of my purchase rather than needing to find $1500 for a PCI-Express-based system.

That is why I’m just not a big PC gamer. Upgrading and such just is out of my price range. Along with that I prefer the feel of a controller in most cases and I’m not a huge FPS or strategy game fan which is the PC’s biggest advantage.

But it is nice to see companies who are willing to give PC-gamers a break and give cheaper and effective upgrades.

I’ve heard a lot of things about the F.E.A.R AI.  In terms of using cover, I have heard that they actually kick down cabinets and tables to use as cover sometimes. Is that true?

I would strongly recommend the ATI X850-XT PE. Best AGP card on the market.

Makes FEAR it’s bitch.
