Armed resistance…
...saves lives.
Bridges pulled a .357 Magnum pistol and he later said he was prepared to shoot to kill if necessary. He and Gross both approached Odighizuwa at the same time from different directions. Both were pointing their weapons at him. Bridges yelled for Odighizuwa to drop his weapon. When the shooter realized they had the drop on him he threw his weapon down.
That was a 2002 incident just a short drive away from the Virginia Tech campus.
There’s much more at the link. Good information to have when deciding on how to feel about guns, gun control, crime, criminals and politicians who seek your vote.

idiotic statement of the day:
Guns should be banned. It would definitely reduce the number of guns in possession by people such as Cho Seung-Hui simply out of fear of being arrested.

Its only idiotic because you cant take the guns back. You cant ban guns. And not because its not a good idea, but because its too late.

No its idiotic because of the belief that people planning to do something illegal will be afraid of using a gun because having a gun is illegal and they might go to jail for it.
If you’re afraid of going to jail you’re not going to commit the crime. If you’re planning to commit the crime your fear of jail isn’t there so you won’t care that the tool you’re using is illegal.

Good point. Thats possible. My guess is though, in cases like this, might not be completely true though. They may not care about going to jail if they can go shoot up a school (accomplising their big goal). They may not be as willing to go to jail for just having a gun.
So I dont think they have no fear of going to jail for gun possesion. But your point is still valid, they would probably just be alot more careful about not getting caught.

See, this is why I have been saying for so long that you’re the kind of “dissenter” that makes Moorewatch better - you actually DO notice when you’ve gone off the rails. ;)
Obviously as I think you realized, it’s not about jail as it is about interrupting the mass murderer’s “pattern” or “ramp-up” for lack of a better way to say it. I think these guys need to go on the rampage to psyche themselves up into killing themselves; interrupt the process with some “Stop or I’ll shot you dead where you stand” and they literally reset internally; now it becomes about not getting shot by someone else and becoming the punchline to a late-night host’s joke instead of becoming the “hero” (infamously so, I suppose) they thought the act would make them.

In the dictionary under Redundant, it says, “See Redundant”.
