CNN.com - Cardinal Law’s statement - Dec. 13, 2002

Cardinal Bernard Law has retired from the Boston archdiocese.  He released a statement today which did absolutely nothing to lessen my desire to see him burn in hell for all eternity.

It is my fervent prayer that this action may help the Archdiocese of Boston to experience the healing, reconciliation and unity which are so desperately needed.

To all those who have suffered from my shortcomings and mistakes I both apologize and from them beg forgiveness.

You’ll get no such forgiveness if there is any justice in the world, Cardinal.  You sicken me, your Church sickens me, and I’m glad I left a long time ago.

This might be the worst part:

Last week, the Boston Archdiocese released extensive documents detailing startling examples of clergy sexual misconduct related to claims priests molested children.

In addition, the archdiocese Finance Council authorized Law to seek bankruptcy protection for the archdiocese, which faces an estimated 450 claims from alleged abuse victims.

Despicable.

A frank, harsh, vulgar and truthful post about the Catholic scandals

Warnings about priests ignored, Boston church documents show

Hundreds of pages of church documents released Tuesday show that officials of the Boston Roman Catholic Archdiocese allowed priests accused of abuse to remain in the ministry or did not persuade them to receive residential psychiatric treatment.

I want to be very blunt and clear about this, so that the horror of what these criminals and depraved human beings did is not lost in the politeness of everyday conversation.

Warning: What lies ahead is neither polite nor pleasant.  When I said blunt, I meant blunt.

Perhaps the Church will listen to one of it’s own

This former (now renegade) priest has some common sense things to say about the epidemic of child abuse in the priesthood.

Lipinski believes that other priests have molested children out of the same sense of social isolation, which is why he’s a supporter of zero tolerance in the priesthood.

I never thought I’d say this in realtion to the words “zero tolerance,” but I agree.

Catholic bishops open mouths, insert foots

Influential Roman Catholic bishops in the Philippines on Saturday warned the public against the latest James Bond movie for its casual sex and large-scale violence.

The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) said there was nothing new to appreciate in the plot of “Die Another Day”, noting that British agent 007 has not mended his womanising ways since the first Bond movie “Dr. No” in 1962.

Umm…

HOW’S THIS FOR SOMETHING TO WARN THE PUBLIC ABOUT: CATHOLIC PRIESTS ARE PREYING ON YOUNG BOYS IN RECORD NUMBERS AND YOU’RE DOING NOTHING ABOUT IT, YOU *GOD DAMNED* HYPOCRITES.  Stop worrying about a fictional character in a film series and start worrying about the fact that Catholic priests are raping young boys.  Let’s stop coddling this situation, people, every time a council of Catholic anything issues a statement, remind them that there is a far more important and larger issue that they need to address.

The Church is dying, and I for one will not shed a tear.
