Have yourself a Bill O’Reilly Christmas…
...And tell lots of lies
from now on,
the truth will wear a sad disguise…
Bill O’Reilly yesterday absurdly — and falsely — claimed that Sears won’t use the word “Christmas” in its advertising, but the front page advertising on its web page has right on it the words
“we wish you a merry christmas”above a link to the Sears “Chrismas Shop”. Let me say that again. Its Chrismas Shop.
The full article, while not spelling Christmas correctly ;), definitely spells out just how Christmas-sy Sears is...as Greg put it:
Will someone please get the word out? You can’t turn around in Sears without running into “Merry Christmas.”
Got it. Sears = Christmas like a muh-fugga. See also: O’Reilly’s a tool. Stop paying attention to him. I’m talking to you, my fellow right-leaning peeps. The man has a Powerpoint-deep education on any given subject. Stop watching him. Let him die on the vine like the vegetable he is.
Hat tip: Ace of Spades (I sing it like Lemme every time I see the site name in my Firefox tab. “The ayce of spay-ades, the ayce of spay-ades...")

A company to avoid
Hell of a story here…
At this point I thanked him and informed him that I would be writing an article about my experience with his company. It was at this point that he went ballistic. He first told me that if I did this that he would not cancel my order but just never fill it. If I cancelled it he said he’d charge me a 15% restocking fee. When I told him that that would be unethical he went nuts. He accused me of trying to “extort” him and said that he was going to have two local police officers come over and arrest me. He then went on to say that as a “professional photographer” I should have known better than to try and buy a camera this way and that he was an attorney and would sue me if I wrote an article about my experience.
He told me that I had no idea who I was dealing with and that as he had my work contact info that he was going to call both my immediate supervisor and the CEO of my company and tell them that I was trying to extort him.
“I will take this very personally,” he said. He claimed to have recorded our phone call and said that he would make sure that I would “never be able to order anything on the internet again.”
The company? PriceRitePhoto, a.k.a. C&A Marketing and TheCameraMall.com in Brooklyn, New York. Stay away.

PostSecret: the book
If you’re not a regular reader of PostSecret, you are missing out. I found this like a year or so ago, and have been a rabid fan ever since. The artistic bent of the cards, the open sharing of deep personal issues...it is truly a great experiment. I was wondering just where the new cards were these past few weeks...now we know. There’s a book coming out soon. I already pre-ordered mine. Makes a great gift! Call now. Operators are standing by.
The downside? They’ve removed the archives of past cards from the site. I hope once the book settles they’ll return the archives. There are some new ones up this week though.

Woot, woot, woot!
You know what? I love Woot. What a great business model...take overstocked and discontinued stuff that is still perfectly good, buy it at ridiculous discounts, and sell one item each day until you empty your warehouse of that thing. I imagine on the back end, it makes it a lot easier to run your business. Each day you’re only processing orders for one thing, shipping one thing, etc.
Donna says that everything at Woot is hot. She says that this is what happens to all that stuff the mafia hijacks from trucks. I think she thinks this is the 40s. :)
Anyone else buy stuff from Woot?

History is fascinating
I’ve always enjoyed history, especially recent American history. I love to learn little things about how we got where we are now. Wizbang has a piece that taught me something new today Martha White and the Baton Rouge Bus Boycott. I have never even heard about this before today.
American public schools: top notch! How is this not part of civil rights education in every school? Anyway...no disrespect intended to Rosa Parks, and I tip my hat to her for her contribution to civil rights, I just found this very interesting. There’s a PDF file and a link to an NPR story over at Wizbang, you should check them out if you enjoy this kind of reading.
Much respect to Ms. White. Amazing what simple people sick of it all can accomplish.

A monster deal
OK, these are expensive, but they are the best earbuds on the market for under a thousand dollars. The quality is AMAZING. I refuse to use anything else unless absolutely necessary. They are the same model as the ones that I won awhile back. And this is the best price I have ever seen for them. It’s gotta be close to cost.

Shure E5c Sound Isolating Earphones for $269.99. You will not beat that price, and at that price you cannot find anything that sounds as good, I promise you that.

Excellent bargains for your ears
If you’re looking for good earbuds for a portable music player and you want a bargain, check these out.
Buy.com, today only, has the Sony MDR-EX71SL’s for just $27.99. I own these, and they are hands-down the best you’ll find under $50. A bit bass-heavy, however I found that with the right EQ setting on my iPod, that went away. Plus there are mods you can do to further improve the sound and make them sound like they cost twice the price, if you are so inclined.* I recommend these to anyone looking to replace the crappy buds that usually come with every CD player, Walkman and MP3 player.
Another bargain that is hard to pass up if you have an iPod mini is from PCMicroStore. The Kroo mini iPod Cool White Silicone Skin case...decent protection from scratches, a neutral color and just $4.99. You’d pay more than that in shipping from anywhere else.
I wasn’t really going to get a case for my mini since I plan to use it mostly in the waterproof case when I’m excercising in the pool, but for five bucks, I may as well. I am using the mini more than the full-sized ipod in the car, this may come in handy there. My car is much like my desk: full of crap and sharp things designed to scratch anything that can be scratched.
BTW, you can get it shipped via US mail for a buck. How cheap is that?

RACIST!
These kinds of blatant racist actions shall not stand.
In March, a jury found District Attorney Eddie Jordan liable for racial discrimination after he dismissed dozens of (redacted) employees.
Jordan is offering to rehire some of the workers instead of paying them the money they were awarded.
Why (redacted) ? So you can relax for a minute before you realize that Jordan is black and every employee he fired is white. Now that he’s been found to be completely in the wrong, what;s his response?
“Reinstatement is the preferred remedy in these types of cases. We stand firm on our position that reinstatement is feasible. It would be up to the judge to make the final decision. We don’t believe front pay should be awarded; however, if front pay is ordered, it should be limited because the plaintiff’s failed to mitigate their damages.”
Hey Jordan: you’re a bigoted piece of shit. Go fuck yourself.
I wonder why Je$$e Jack$on isn’t up in arms about this. Oh, wait, it was a black guy being a racist. Nevermind.

Connecticut Approves Civil Unions For Gays, Fundies freak out
Good for us. It’s not real human equality, but it’ll do.
Connecticut on Wednesday became the second state to offer civil unions to gay couples — and the first to do so without being forced by the courts.
About an hour after the state Senate sent her the legislation, Republican Gov. M. Jodi Rell signed into law a bill that will afford same-sex couples in Connecticut many of the rights and privileges of married couples.
“The vote we cast today will reverberate around the country and it will send a wave of hope to many people, to thousands of people across the country,” said Sen. Andrew McDonald, who is gay.
The state House passed the measure last week but amended it to define marriage under Connecticut law as between one man and one woman. The Senate approved the amended bill Wednesday 26-8.
“I have said all along that I believe in no discrimination of any kind and I think that this bill accomplishes that, while at the same time preserving the traditional language that a marriage is between a man and a woman,” Rell said.
Wanna see the stupid fundie react insanely?
“Our mission will be to let every person know in the state of Connecticut which lawmakers voted to redefine marriage, and which lawmakers voted to protect marriage,” he said.
Hey retard, the bill defined the word marriage as between a man and a woman, you simpleton. Shut your idiotic, backward-thinking pie-hole and stop trying to prevent human beings from having rights of survivorship and medical benefits, you piece of filth.
