Happy Thanksgiving everyone.  May yours be a few hundred times better than ours.

On being thankful

Normally I would say I have a lot to be thankful for. I have the love of a good woman, a house full of pets and toys and I’m not starving.  John Kerry is not my president.  Yassir Arafat is dead.

Somehow I simply don’t feel thankful.  I have to watch my wife suffer every single day and there isn’t a goddamned thing I can do about it.

No...I wish the spirit of the holiday to everyone else, but I’m going to skip the “what am I thankful for” retrospective this year.  Because I’m not satisfied with saying “I’m thankful that we’re still alive.” That’s just not good enough anymore.

I want this to be over.  4 years is quite enough, thank you.

Hey ICCR: Suck my railgun, n00b

Another group who thinks they know better than parents.

As the holiday shopping season begins, we come together as citizens, consumers and investors concerned about the marketing of a culture of violence in a season where “peace and goodwill toward all” are principal themes. We are especially concerned about the marketing of violent entertainment, particularly violent video games, to children.

Aww.  Poor little folks who have no one to control.  Isn’t it cute when they get involved?

Oh, their list?  It looks like a shopping list of the best games of the year.  Buy them all!

1. Doom 3
2. Grand Theft Auto: “San Andreas
3. Gunslinger Girls 2
4. Half Life 2
5. Halo 2
6. Hitman: Blood Money
7. Manhunt
8. Mortal Combat
9. Postal 2
10. Shadow Heart

Hat tip: The Bear. And like hiom, I am intrigued by “Gunslinger Girls 2.” Too bad it’s PS2.

Could it perhaps be enough weaponry to say, fight a war?

Time has proven the left wrong about most if their assertions about Iraq.  Looks like that pattern is holding true for Fallujah as well.

Without providing details, Wilson called the amount of arms uncovered in Fallujah “stunning.”

“The amount of weapons was in no way just to protect a city,” said Maj. Jim West, a Marine intelligence officer. “There was enough to mount an insurgency across the country.”

A huge store of weapons and explosives was discovered at the mosque of Abdullah al-Janabi, a Muslim cleric and insurgent leader, according to a report on The New York Times’ Web site. Al-Janabi is thought to have fled the city.

The Times said the mosque compound in a residential area had sheds stacked with TNT, mortar shells, bombs, guns, rocket-propelled grenades and ammunition. A naval mine was in the street outside, it added.

Religion of Peace.

Keep repeating it.

Religion of Peace.

About the blogosphere

This is a very information-dense look at the trends and influence blogs had on the election.

Nicely done!

Rather quits.  Kinda.

Via RatherBiased:

CBS News just announced that Dan Rather will be stepping down from “CBS Evening News” anchordesk in March of 2005.

“I have been lucky and blessed over these years to have what is, to me, the best job in the world and to have it at CBS News. Along the way, I’ve had the honor of working with some of the most talented, dedicated professionals in the world, and I’m appreciative of the opportunity to continue doing so in the years ahead,” Rather said in a statement on the CBS News web site.

Network officials said Rather will continue to remain an employee of CBS, filing stories for both the Sunday and Wednesday editions of “60 Minutes.” CBS has yet to announce a successor.

The retirement announcement did not include any information on when the “independent” panel investigating the leadup to Memogate would be releasing its report.

Hey big surprise there!  This is precisely and exactly what I predicted.  What a scumbag.  Go quietly into that good night, Dan.  Try not to screw up your retirement the way you screwed up the trustworthiness of network news anchors.

Just got back from the ER

Donna had a series of seizures starting around midnight that resulted in us going to the ER again...we just walked in the door.

1. We’re exhausted, and hopefully I will sleep for a day.
2. No insurance is killing us with this shit this year.  This one is going to o about 2 grand, I can feel it.  Ambulance, ER, CAT scan...just kill me.  Kill me now.  :)

Is it just me?

I get a lot of spam...so what.  I filter, I have dummy accounts, I delete, it’s just a fact of life.  But DAMN, in the past 36 hours, it’s literally ten to fifteen times the normal volume!  Was there a sale on bulk email rates this past weekend or something?  Did I pee on some spammer’s mom?  What;s up? And Gmail, which is pretty good with the catching spam thing, just let most of it blow by.

Holy mother earth, there was like, a deluge.  It was like spam had cancer and my inbox was the chemo.

An excellent idea

Over at Daily Pundit, a reader emailed a fantastic idea.  Maybe we’d get some truthful reporting.

I think ALL reporters (especially ones with camera and tape recorders) should be required to check out ALL dead or wounded terrorists. The Marines should just motion for the embedded to come over and check them out first before the Marine does. That way the journalist can get first hand account of what a booby trapped terrorist really is and exactly what the Marines are up against day and night. Let the reporters sacrifice their lives for their newspapers, instead of their country......and save the lives of our marines at the same time .

Excellent idea.  This should be a requisite of being embedded.  You want the ratings?  Start rolling bodies over.  Let’s see how long it takes a reporter to drop his notebook and grab a rifle and plug anyone who is still breathing after a firefight.
